Yep... I think they are gonna keep banning me but its so pointless, i can always change my IP and make fake emails and just sign on in 2 minutes every time... That Admin Jason is just like a security guard that takes his job a little too seriously..

This is awesome Just the news I was waiting/hoping for..
Quick question for Jim or anybody who is in the know. Do we know how much the shark injector will be? and when will it be available. I am assuming it will be available once the Sharkedit software is released? Any idea on when we will get some solid dyno numbers of the supplied "base" map? Thanks Mike |

I would never try to warranty, tranny, clutch, turbo, IC, diff, half-shaft, etc that blew up while the car was tuned. However, if I had something else go wrong, even though I have a good relationship with my dealer, they would probably have an easier time getting warranty work done if I could easily flash the car back to stock, so that a BMW NA regional rep who would actually have to approve work wouldn't see a modified car. I'm sure there are less scrupulous individuals who would do otherwise, but as I've pointed out in numberous 'v81 the sky is falling!!' posts, who cares if BMW voids your powertrain warranty? Why would one expect to keep it if modded? The answer is peace of mind, so you don't get screwed out of brakes, wheels, tires, electronics, or anything else because the BMW Regional rep felt like denying your warranty claim based on your tune. |

This Product sounds great, and if everything is going according to plans when I put my order down for a 335i, This will be my choice.
A couple of questions though. 1) Since i didn't read all the way through the thread, how will this work with the v81 DME's? will their be a tell-tale sign that anything has been touched? 2) Would this be O.K with a lease? 3) Im assuming this is something like LS1/2 Edit, HP Tuners, EFI Live, Plugs into the OBDII where you can read, edit and write a flash. Since I'm a that tunes GM products I'm guessing the parameters wont be anywhere the same. 4) Will this be able to Read and clear DTC's? |

+1. I think J.C.'s potential solution is intriguing, and would like to know more about his Shark Injector and SharkEdit s/w, but it would be great if he could put everything into layman's terms; not everyone is a computer programmer ya' know.

Or worse, someone that has bought the Dinan flash can download a 'pirated' Dinan upgrade, or toy around on their own, or download a new tuner map from the In-ter-net. If, as a consequence, they nuke their engine, they can merrily flash back to the Dinan 'stock' flash and screw Dinan on its warranty. All these internet file sharing flashbacks gives me a Napster flashback. While I am uncertain that tuning EM parameter maps carry any intellectual property protection (are they any different than optimal EQ settings for your stereo?), facilitating/enabling (or participating in) warranty fraud is bound to raise some legal eyebrows. Removing a piggyback prior to a service visit to avoid having your warranty voided carries a certain sporting 'catch me if you can' flavour to it. Reflashing to erase ECU traces of an engine wrecking home tuning experiment in order to get warranty coverage is a bit more brazen, and dare I say, fraudulent. Piggyback tunes were obviously wreaking (or threatening to wreak) havoc with BMW's warranty (i.e. reliability) score on cars with the N54 engine. Just think what tossing the keys to the ECU to everyone without fear of detection will do. |

This is not an illegal product. If someone decides to make a fraudulent warranty claim, that's their individual decision...has nothing to do with the product.

Agreed. We need tools like this for those who are serious about racing their vehicle. But by pushing the vehicle, they should understand that they accept the liability for anything that goes wrong. Its not the tool, its the person.

It is on individual ethics. Companies sell guns all day long but you dont see people asking if they feel bad when people get killed. Well, some people ask but it is still on the individual who made the purchase to do the right thing. As far as the legal part is concerned I am sure that Jim is organized as a LLC, LLP, or better yet a corp so he is protected to only losing his investment. Jim seems like a smart guy, I am sure he has thought this out....
