What have you guys been using to secure the rubber pod to the dash? Rick mentions tape, velcro or pins. I was thinking rubber contact cement. Any thoughts?

Help anyone?

I just PM'd Rick, but I kind of need an answer ASAP as my car is currently at the Pro shop getting the boost gauge installed. Here is what I just PM'd Rick -

Rick - I have my car at the Pro Shop and they are installing the boost gauge. They just called me and are having a problem with connecting up the dimmer. They claim to have wired it up to the wire in they ash tray but claim that unless the dimmer power is turned all the way up, the guage flickers and does not stay lit. Do you have any idea whats wrong here?

Thanks!
Tony

Just installed mine, super easy. Looks great! Stupid question....I'm getting 6 psi under full acceleration is that too low for a stock car? Also....do you think that I should rubber cement it if I'm going into autocross or track events?

you calibrated it, right? 6psi is normal under cooler conditions, or if the oil temp in not above 190 yet, the car will limit boost... but even then, 6-7 psi is normal for a stock car, 8-9 on really hot days.

-Rick

(let me know if you need the calibration instructions)

Hey sounds good. I am getting a bit of a hiss...I placed the brass fitting onto the black vacuum tubing, placed the ferule onto the vacuum tubing, and then connected the fitting directly to the gauge, is this correct?

oh... this is the mechanical gauge? I hate those... LOL (j/k.. sorta)

if its hissing, you probably had the ferule crooked, or the fitting is not sealed... you should not have hissing, thats a leak.

Has anyone been sucessful on getting the digital guage to dim thru the cars dimmer setup? I followed the instructions but no go on dimmer. I also get a nasty flicker while idling. Reduced if you lower the brightest manually but still there.

Thoughts?

I've done 3 local installs that worked perfectly with the dimmer, as long as the filter circuit to filter out the flickering is installed... its just a matter of getting all the components and settings in the right place, if you follow the instructions to a T, it will work, every time... I promise

Hey Rick, great product and even better instructions!

Longodj, I got hissing at first, but all I needed to to do was tighten the the brass fitting. I finger tightened it at first and then used a wrench to really tighten it. No hiss.

Rick, I botched the wiring though. I made sure the wires were pluged into the back of the gauge. I tied the red and yellow together with one of the supplied wires and tapped it into one of the little red/grey dimmer wires and tied the black to the other supplied wire and tapped it into the brown wire.

Because I couldn't pull the shift knob off (and was reluctant to force it too much), I went at this from the side. Where you have "tap here" on your photo, mine was much closer to the white harness, just above the blue harness for the shifter lights in your photo.

Looking at that white harness, I see it as brown, then red/black, then the two red/grey wires (one of which I tapped into).

What did I do wrong?

As an aside, where is the boost being measured from? Is it pre or post FMIC? I got 15 psi peak with the Dinan Stage II rev 2 + FMIC. Also what is the significance of negative boost?

Thanks in advance!!
