Thank you that was very helpful and informative... thats just repeating what I said. What performance gain is there from a BOV BESIDES a "psssssshth" sound? I have read a little bit about it here but no one seems to offer a concrete answer as to gains besides saying that the boosted air is released into the atmosphere and kept from being re-used, also keeping the turbo's from negative boost pressure between shifts... I'm not knocking the sound, but I have never ever seen here or anywhere else real proof (in writing or a dyno result) that it really does anything worth mentioning.

By the way ADHD you have TWO turbos, just like me... and I'm rather happy with the sound until I get an exhaust and other work done first. Then I would def consider a BOV.

I think the HKS SSQV has a set of rings you can buy (Purple/Gold) that can change the sound it makes. The purple one makes the 'woosh' instead of the 'wheee' sound.

The purple insert is garbage

I put that on my subaru and it made like almost no sound

The HKS will always whistle because its a pull design.

What Subaru? I've seen some vids of the purple rings and the 'woosh' sound seems audible.

Is their instructions? Will a Nissan tech be able to install this with ease? I work at a nissan dealership.. it will be easier for me to just pull my car into service and have them put it on.

Also one more silly question. BOV's arent affected by extreme cold temps right? It was 8 degrees F today...
Deciding between sounds is a really tough, I know.

The HKS gives a unique "chirp". Very different from other BOV's on the market. The TiAL gives the traditional air discharge. At high rpm shifts it can sound like a whip

Yes, instructions are included. Very straight forward install.

Weather shouldn't be a problem. The vids were taken in -18 degrees celcius, with a -26 windchill (-0.4 F, -14.8 F)

so you will include install instructions separate and specific for the type of car it's going in?

If you don't like the sound of a BOV then there is no reason for you to post in this groupbuy thread. If you had any idea how a turbo setup works you would know that a BOV will never add any HP to your car so a dyno is pretty irrelevant. A BOV simply prevents compressor surge when your throttle body closes and that pressurized air needs to go somewhere, it vents it to the atmosphere and makes the woosh or pssshhh sound that you love. On a stock car, where your OEM diverter valves recirculate this air back into the intake plumbing, there is no need for a BOV since the OEM hardware is already doing the same job. So, no, there is no power gain with a BOV. The only time that it is really worth upgrading to, aside from sound, is when you are running more boost than your diverter valves can handle, but that isn't a problem with this car. With that said, I would still order a tial bov in a second since I love the sound. Hope that clears things up for you.

The install is identical between the coupe and sedan. We will include our own, as well as the manufacturer's instruction guide.

They are saying that an HKS bov because of the design does not allow any boost leak, Does the Tial leak any boost?

We have never had the TiAL leak boost. I suppose if you have a race car and run 45-50 psi, you may need to look for a different BOV. The HKS definitely has the best design, and the TiAL can discharge the most amount of air. In a perfect world you'd have a BOV with both features. For now, they will both do the job for the 335i. You can't go wrong with either. It's really going to come down to which sound/look you prefer best.

Then go with the Tial. I never hear of any problems with them, including my own.
