My first thought is Vanos Solenoids. What my problem was when it started getting hotter out and I was pushing the car hard.

WTF, i just had the same issue yesterday happen to me for the first time, although I was pushing the car pretty hard for about 10 miles, from about 60MPH to 130MPH with many downshift to 4th pulls. (FBO with GIAC II)

I will stop by Auto Zone and have them read the codes and report back, I've been noticing a bit of "turbulence" under load, usually an indication of fuel ignition problem, so it can be a number of issues (coil, plugs, injectors, vanos)

my car is no longer under warranty so I hope its nothing serious. Performance went back to normal after restarting the car.

The half engine malfunction light in my case is a shadow code, autozone OBDII reader wont show any codes, I'm trying to get BT scanner to get to all those codes + other stuff you can study abt ur car

This happened to mine a couple of years ago. It was still under CPO and it took them a few tries to figure out the issue. In my case, as others have suggested, it turned out to be the vanos (is the THE vanos, or VANOS, or vanos solenoid? I honestly barely know what we're talking about here...). They also replaced a bunch of vacuum lines come to think of it -- it may have been related to that as well. Since then everything has been fine.

Well...fine except for fuel pump x2, chipped cam (manufacture flaw), water pump, leaky oil filter housing (still needs replaced), etc etc... But I still love my car .

Do you think that Carbon Build up could cause a Half Engine light? My car has about 70k miles and never got it done, I plan to get this done soon, and i was wondering what are your experiences.

Thank you

Had the same issue after installing GIAC Stage II. Turned out to be my injectors. BMW replaced all six and have not encountered the problem since. That said, as many have pointed out it could be; plugs, coils, injectors, or other.

The car has 31,000 miles on it.
Oil temp is right in the middle
Fuel pump sounds fine

it does sound like something is leaking like air when I push it though.
What could be wrong?
I had a half engine light pop up on me so I checked for codes It was my Low Pressure Fuel Sensor. LPFS. 29F3

car ran strong but as soon as I hit 100+ half engine light came up this was annoying
this LPFS was sending false information to my injectors so i changed the sensor an had injectors recalibrated to oem setting
good luck
