I was at Rockingham as well. Chris is a good friend of mine. That was his first time to the drag strip in his stock sedan as well. Keep in mind though he has been drag racing for a long time. He ran 11.9 in a 100% bone stock C5 Z06, hence he can row. Just hit the track more and your times will come around. Those lower profile tires (19s?) certainly aren't helping. The lack of sidewall flex will hurt you. I believe Chris had some 1.9 60 ft times and he certainly bangs gears well.

I was there in a stock red Z28....The weather was good and the track was working for me, of course its a stock auto so its a lot easier....

I think Chris actually ran a 1.8 60ft on the run flats. He's not to shabby huh!?

Yeah my side walls are stiff as porn stars d*ck haha. Like I said, next time I will feather the clutch, throw some DR's on the stock 18s and it will be fine.

Your car looks great on the vid...sounds like you had someone admiring your set-up. Your times will only get better - good luck when you go back.

Hey man, I can totally sympathize with you. i just went to the drag strip this past Friday with the JB2R. I had wheel spin like you can't believe (actually you probably can) and I'm totally humbled by those who are getting ridiculously fast times...

So, how bad was I?

My first run, first as in first ever to the drag strip, I got a:

15.270 at 90.54 MPH. Only redeeming factor was I beat the Civic or something next to me, barely, by 1.5 seconds. Imagine if I lost?!

My second run:

13.792 at 106.13 MPH. This time I lost to a GTO, though I trapped a higher MPH. My R/T on this beauty of a run, a beautiful 1.454 seconds. Tell your friends, there is a new sheriff in town.

My third run:

13.772 at 105.80 MPH.

My fourth run, my last run, my fastest run, and only run with the R switch off:

13.771 at 102.09 MPH. It was against a GTO, and again I lost to a GTO. Not by much though, only .92 seconds and my RT was 7/10ths slower. I just need traction. He actually came to talk to me after the race, he was surprised how fast the 335i was. Good sportsmanship !

http://www.rpmoutlet.com/dyno.htm

Anyway I found this page which is kind of cool, not sure if it's right but this is what they say when I put the weight of a 6 M/T sedan plus my large body in the car.

1st Run:

224.17380495675923 HP

2nd Run:

361.0587593145464 HP

3rd Run:

357.70119899751063 HP

4th Run w/ JB2R off:

321.3756767867167 HP

There was another board member there and he trapped at 110 w/ just an SSTT!! He had an auto and was obviously not new to racing cars, luckily he gave me some tips throughout the night. I definitely need drag radials and mostly some better driving skills.

So, all of this makes me think that the trap speed isn't a good indicator when you have excessive wheel spin.

Isn't perfect reaction time .500?

BFG makes a very decent 18" drag radial. Rumor has it Mickey Thompson with be coming out with an 18" DR as well. I ran 17" hoosier 315-25-17s on my 569 rwhp Mustang and they hooked incredibly well. I don't think Hoosier has plans to make an 18" DR though. Certainly snagging some basic 17" wheels off of a 328I/325I and running a DR would be ideal

FWIW to the OP, make sure you pay attention to what the track announcer says. My very first pass was a mess, I was in the left lane and traction was aweful. The track announcer mentioned the right lane was prepper better, and I certainly had a lot more success using it.

To give you an idea of how bad my RT was for that run, my last R/T of the night was a .164

Yes, on a sportsman tree (I've never seen a pro tree used at a street drags night). And it has nothing to do with E.T. since the timers don't start until you launch and break the staging beams.

Wish I could have made it. I could have helped you some with that launch. Could not tell from the video, but were you driving through the water box?

I just watched the 1st video again and was laughing my head off...it's nearly the exact same thing that happened to me back on Dec 14th at Firebird in Phoenix...just too cold and like skating on ice.

I guarantee when you hook up you'll run 109/110mph, so don't sweat the trap speed.

Why do you go through the water box. Unless you have drag I would suggest you bypass the water box.

M3to335,
Im a 6MT user too. Dont even try to goto the drag strip with your CDV. You will not be able to launch well or shift the way you need to. I went... the only thing it did was burn up my clutch. Take out your CDV and try again. You will see a HUGE improvement!

LSD, CDV delete, better tires, experience with launching, better gas, weight loss, quicker shifts (do not let engine go off boost) --> much faster times. But who cares, bottom line is you had fun! Good attitude!

I was thinking of gutting my own CDV. Guess I need to look around for a DIY.

Wait just a minute! Rockingham is a full 1/4? Why haven't I heard of this place. It's got to be the closest 1/4 to me.
