We are talking about normal premium grade gasoline... which is 93 & 94 octane. Perhaps that why all these people in california are so obsessed with 98+ octane or something, because they can only get 91 octane. On 94 Octane you have just as much HP as you will from 100 octane. You not goign to spend $65 to fill up your tank with 100 octane to get 2hp more.. Unless your car has been modified to handle it and you have a reason for being as optimol as possible..... such as a drag event. More octane might (at a given rpm) allow for a cleaner burn that yields some additional gains. But not across the board and not by the magnitude you have suggested. Do you honestly think you going to gain 15hp by using 6 more octane..? Don't believe everything these regional start up tuners are spewing... alot of them are in their twenties and have good marketing and tricky words and are trying to sell you something. Matter-of-fact, who did the study on this for the N54..? Carl, have you adjusted your cams or some other internals on the N54...? Don't get me wrong, I am not saying higher octane isn't usefull, but without specific mods, higher octane than 94 won't yield any measurable results. |

I think we know that going from 91 Octane to 94 is going to yeild some gains but the question is what are we gaining if anything over 94 Octane?

That's smoothing of "3".. and not the usual SAE , smoothing of "5".. does that make a difference?

Everyone on this board is convinced to use the STD numbers to inflate there numbers,The tune looks smooth,so they didnt need to use the dyno software to make it look smoother, using a 5 there would make the dyno even more smoother.

yes, the Dinan makes great power.. but does it match up to the Procede? not trying to start anything.. just actually wanting to compare all these "tunes" on the same day with same dyno

100 Octane
So, just as an obvious FYI but 100 octane doesn't help on the stock engine.
I did a pull a few weeks ago with a tank of Sunoco 260 GT (100 Octane street gas) and didn't show any improvement over the numbers folks are putting down with 93 Octane (282hp in 3rd, 284lb-ft in 4th) I'll run it again on 91 for a baseline delta one of these days. |

so anything above 94 is useless, well maybe not useless, but diminishing returns.. ??
