If you move to Cali you can read all the tabloids about what "Crazy Florida Man" is up to and laugh that you don't live in the same state as him anymore.
Other than that, it's the political butthole of the US. I'd vacation there but wouldn't staycation there. |

Here is the thing about Florida-
No state income tax no emissions insp/laws overall low taxes inexpensive education no state safety inspections no insane nanny state tons of freedom great roads relatively lenient police low price of real estate (unless south fl) great winters If you have a good job in Florida, one needs a ton of incentive to move out. You hear a ton of horseshit on the news and people making fun out of the state... ...until they eventually move here. I couldnt imagine living anywhere else... and this is coming from someone who knows and has lived in numerous parts of the country.

I grew up in Central FL, between Daytona and Orlando (really dislike FL now but everyone likes different things), at one point lived in GA, TN, OR, and Hermosa Beach, CA, now Cincinnati. One of the biggest problems I see from moving from Orlando to Southern CA is you may not fully understand the costs. Look at the areas you want to live, what an apartment will cost, what the state taxes will be that you currently don't pay, the high registration fees, car insurance, etc. I don't think there is anything that costs more in FL compared to this area. You posted what malpractice and licensing fees cost but this is only the start of what your real costs will be. At the same time my guess is you will make more money, you just need to figure it out.

It is expensive here, trust me I know... But it's not as expensive as NYC or SF, not even close...
Comparisons to Chicago are a little far fetched as well... I think the only city that can match Chicago right now for violent crimes / murders etc is - Juarez... Yes, it's the Republic of California, yes taxes are high... Yes, we are responsible for the Kardashians... But I have 80 degree temps in the summer and 60 in the winter... We don't have retirement-ville like ASBSECU E93 and jtodd_fl are used to over there in FL and don't have to worry about monsoons and hurricanes and crap... We just have earthquakes... ![]() Depends on what you want or what you're looking for... If you live in LA proper, I can understand the disdain... But if you can afford / get lucky enough to move to a beach community? It's frickin' paradise... And !!! Can't compare Orlando or Tampa Bay to Manhattan Beach or Newport Beach... |

What are your hobbies? What school are you looking at going to ? Where in So. Cal are you looking to live? What income does one make in acupuncture? What are your expectations in life in terms of financial freedom?
There is a guy who could pretty much live anywhere in the world (8 figure net worth at minimum) and he always posts things on his instagram about how much he has enjoyed his move to Orange County as he is originally from out of the US. Doesn't hurt that he has an ocean view in one of the nicest parts of the OC. It is expensive to live here, but not everyone in Orange County makes a lot of money even though it may seem like it according to their designer good and german cars. People like me can have a decent life without making beaucoup bucks. I'd rather be poor in Orange County than Rich in * |

Seems like what we learned is the people that live in So Cal say it is better and the people in FL say it is better. Surprising
![]() OP should do his research and make an educated decision.

OP seems to be missing. I am very bias and don't like change so I would recommend CA to everyone as long as they don't mind being highly regulated in all aspects in life. Once you get over that, the weather is amazing as is the culture and diversity. |

OP, I won't join the chorus of other postings that are advising you to look before you leap because California is expensive especially among most of the beach communities. It is somewhat more affordable if you are an inland community and I would look at that as something say from Bakersfield to Redding more in the central part of the state or the eastern part of the state.
I'm wondering if you have adequately researched the acupuncture field because there is a rather large growing segment that are moving towards Community Acupuncture with average patient visits are $15 to $20 with initial visits for $35. It makes it hard to recuperate three and a half years schooling plus expenditures to keep yourself afloat during that time. While medicine is definitely a field to consider, there are many other aspects of medicine that will compensate you at a much better rate and might be worthwhile looking into. Whatever you do best of luck! |

I don't think money really matters to him. Family has that taken care of. In that case, Newport Coast or nothing. |

Sorry for going MIA. Schooling has definitely picked up substantially this week. After thinking and discussing it with the wife. It would most likely be best to stay out until I finish school then go from there. There are def pros and cons to living here or there just like anywhere else. Thanks for all the advice and comments!!

Cali really is overrated and many areas are dumps. Unless you're loaded and can live in the NICE part of LA or in San Fran, it blows.
Oakland, dump. LA, mostly a dump. Anaheim, dump. Sacramento, dump. |
