I remove about 50 per year from my dogs and I've never had an issue. Thanks for the tip though, all new methods are worth looking in to.

This is what I was thinking accounted for the "hard lump" description. If so, waiting a few more days to remove would have nearly zero effect on the chance of transfer of Lymes to said pup.

Most medics would agree with you on not simply using tweezers to remove a tic because of that reason.

I have to admit that I have pulled dozens of tics off of my own body over the years by either using my bare fingers, the soap method or the Vaseline method.

Thankfully I have had no infections result after pulling tics off of me with no regard for the potential long term effects.

I always find it difficult to agree when people use the analogy of women giving birth is the equivalent of a male passing a "insert fruit here" through his urethra.

The vagina of any female mammal, including humans has evolved to and is designed specifically to perform this obviously painful but natural process.

The male urethra is NOT. So I truly believe it is not fair to compare a world renowned natural process for life as we know it, with some process that is completely unfeasible.

Designed? There exists plans somewhere (PDF?) for the original inner workings of the most forbidden fruit?

If the only way for sperm to survive on this planet required a strawberry to keep it warm and soft then all men would be passing strawberries.

Of course, some nameless folks around here might end up with strawberry stains in the shower, bathroom and wherever else.

But seriously. My dog has no fur, and he is tiny. He gets about 30 ticks per year amd just spent two nights below 15f temperatures outside with a big wound in his back leg. Dogs are pretty tough. We humans just like freaking out.
