Cops will look for more than a legacy plate on your car to pull you over for. Just don't give them a reason to and you'll be fine.

Makeup a new name.
I had that happen to me before.

I have two of the legacy plates.
One is on my E90 the other on my X5.
3 month wait both times.

I had a legacy plate on my previous car. Took about 3 months. Feels like forever.
