I know the BP station OP is talking about. assuming the timing was after the refurb they did? I've been there a fair bit as well mainly due to convenience and price, never had a problem although I'm not running an6 aftermarket tune.

Good info though. Hope all your issues are sorted.

I use BP 98 exclusively (not from west Ryde) and got this code the other day on Cyl 1.

I felt a vibration as I nailed the throttle going up a hill in 7th gear. No CEL but did have the code on cyl 1.

I?ll be getting a custom tune so that it?s sorted. There?s no E85 in my area.
How old are spark plugs and coils? How old are injectors? Any oil leaking onto ignition coils and spark plugs over night when you pull them out cold in the morning? BP 98 Ultimate should be plenty for 91 Octane map, not for 93 octane. I just run 3-4L of e85 every tankful of 98 with no problems now. Flush it out with a tankful of 98 every 4 tanks of 3-4L refills and flash back to 91 octane map.

It's a big claim to make against an oil giant and they don't take these lightly. Usually they won't accept vehicle logs as credible evidence as that would tell them the issue lies with the individual vehicle (versus thousands of other vehicles using the same fuel without issue).

You'd need to take samples straight from the bowser and send them off to test labs. It could be that other outlets sell fuel above 98 and this particular outlet happens to be 98? Tuning is a game of pushing limits It's a bit strange that your issues are isolated to the one bank - and it's bank with the index 12s.. Would it be worth recoding the injectors in case the last workshop didn't do it?

It’s not an octane issue. I run c16 and get super knock in cylinder 6. Spark plugs, injectors and coils are brand new. It’s something else.

My Experience

Just a heads up my z4 e89 with MHD has logged cylinders 5/6 knocking. I recently changed my coils and gapped NGK plugs on Shell V Power 98.

I was experiencing superknock codes with car close to 150,00km, new index 12 injectors and new pre cat o2 sensors installed, codes disappeared.

Photo is the old pre cat o2 sensors with mechanic comment, "white tip shows on the way out".

I recently got a super knock code and am wondering if it could be related to faulty injectors. I just replaced all 6 coils with eldors and plugs with NGK 1 step colder gapped to 0.022. Running MHD stg 1+ 91 oct. I always fuel up with 98 Ron. I also just replaced both pre cat o2 sensors as I was constantly getting fuel mixture codes (lean on both banks)

I'm have the same issue for cylinder 2. We've been wrestling with timing corrections for quite some time. I've had ngk plugs cleaned and regapped, threw in eldor coils from fcp euro about a month back. I was told my map is 91 so the Shell 93 is more than enough.

Could it be a bad hpfp or injectors? Car is a '14 z4 e89...

Did you ever find out what the issue was?
