I'm running 4S's on the front but still SS's on the rear. Did get the 3er out yesterday after quite sometime and traction fully off and nicely warmed up the rears hardly broke traction and fired off well. Will go 4S's on the rear though once they need replacing.

has anybody got some miles on the PS4S and driven in the rain? coming down the ring road yesterday (dual carrage way 70mph) and it started to aquaplane which was very disconcerting, wasnt raining hard and I had to slow down to 50mph whilst everyone else flew past me at 70mph+

All tyres will aquaplane if the tread is not deep enough to cut through the standing water. It's not about how heavy the rain is but how much water there is on the road. Could be time for some new rubber. |

New PS4S fitted on the back & a full alignment done, When I’ve covered a few miles I’ll update on how they feel.

I've now had a chance to drive the 35i last weekend & today with the PS4S and they really are very good indeed.
There was also plenty of grip in this morning's rain shower here in kent, the Super sports didn't really like the rain, not saying the 4S are rain tyres but driving the same roads the way I normally do I had no tc cutting in when it would have with the SS's. In the dry there's all the grip one would need. 10 out of 10 from me, so far

I've had the 4S fitted since last November, once scrubbed in thye offer excellent traction in most conditions. You can get the rear out with DTC off and some revs they have a firm sidewall and are quite noisey. They let go on track after about 3-4 hot laps but are predictable and easy to know where the limit of them is. They are reasonably hard wearing. Not sure i would get them again though due to price. there is more affordable options now to consider with the new tyres from Goodyear

It doesn't look like the PS4S 18s will be coming to Europe, I don't want to use 19s, because the roads down here don't suit them. I replaced the PSSs after 27k (yes really!) with PSC2s in 225/40/18 all round and they are brilliant tyres, quieter than PSS bizarrely and much grippier and stable when warmed up, with comedy grip levels when cold and/or wet, the rears were down to 2mm after 14k. The PSC2s cannot deal with standing water though and looking into the Autumn I had to consider other options. I didn't want to go "back" to PSS and I found the regular PS4s competent but a but vague around the centre, which really bothered me. I looked at the new Goodyears, but the noise rating worried me and F1s I've had before, never seemed to live up to the steering fell promised in reviews.
In the end I took a punt on the new Pirelli PZ4s in 225/40 and 245/40 on my MV3s and from the start they've been impressive. Steering feel is really crisp and they are very quiet and smooth, I can hear the engine a lot more now, which has changed the feel of the car. On the limit they don't feel as confident as the PSC2s as you'd expect, but up to 9/10ths they are a superior tyre IMO and the wet weather grip is much better. I'm a Michelin devotee, but I have to say, on this car, in this size, I think these are better tyres. |

I think a lot of places are dialling in 2x toe. Recommend that you confirm your tow to BMW spec.. If you have a printout I can check... |

PS4S are the best tires I've ever used on my 911. They're quiet compared to others I've tried, have great grip, and are like a cheat code in the rain. Love them.

I'd recommend that you have a check done on the Hunter machine ASAP. Checking should be free from a lot of places that have hunter machines as is so simple to do. |

these are my alignment settings but my front inners are quite worn down after 6k miles, the outer edges have loads of life left in them.

The picture shows 10mins per side at the rear which is a bit much. For the front be wearing down in that mileage you either have to much toe or camber or both - which your printout doesn't indicate. You should get a check on a hunter machine... personally I like 5mins front rear. |

Thought I would dig out the official bmw info from TIS, here is the alignment for Msport/lci although thee is little variation.
Here's my interpretation/ my personal preferences Front 7mins front toe in each side (I like 4mins) .54 degrees camber. (to change camber you need to film the pins from strut mounts, I like around 1 degree) Rear 9 mins toe out each side ( I like 5 mins) 1.8 degrees camber Biggest factor is the operator and care and attention, a good alignment need to be checked for consistency by aligning, driving up the road and then rechecking. Rinse and repeat till consistent https://i1099.photobucket.com/albums...ps2fuqtvsx.jpg |

Apparently they aren't trained to do so! That incidentally is why I learnt to use the hunter machine myself! Also ensure that they are selecting to adjust for weighting in the car... |

To rule out anything else causing this I had alignment rechecked with 2 different hunter machines, and a full safety inspection from my specialist indi and all was how it should be. Ps4s scored really well in evo magazine tyre tests for aquaplane but they didn't test on an e9x with 19" etc.. Ps4s do out perform everything else in all other conditions including rain and even when cold so not much of a compromise overall Last edited by Bas5; 10-03-2020 at 06:37 PM.. |
