I chose S2000 off of your list, assuming nice car for the occasional track day. For more of a stripped out track car that sees little to no road time you can’t beat the Miata. There is tons of support from the aftermarket for the Miata, in the States there are spec Miata race classes, parts are cheap and a well driven Miata will embarrass some serious hardware. It will also make you a better driver, it is a momentum car so you will have to work on cornering technique instead of drag racing and standing on the brakes between corners.
This is gonna be a full stripped out track car (not street legal)

I plan to learn and compete in amateur competitions

How would you describe yourself as far as your driving skills are concerned?

I chose the S2000 but it is a tricky bitch at the limit and you might want to trash an example to see for yourself for a day.

S2000 all the way. I'd second prior comment on Miata as well - great inexpensive track car.

Definitely skip the Supra

FD rx7, if you have the knowledge and money to maintain.

corvette will also make an excellent track car

s2k is not easily modded unless you throw in turbo.

Nice, I was bitten by the track bug also. The Miata is tempting, but what I really wanted was a Lotus Elise, I made an offer on a really nice one, but it fell through. Now I am thinking about a late 80's 911, I don't know, I am all over the place.

Should probably just get a Miata, but I just want to do track days, not racing, and not worry about stuffing my weekend toy...

S2000. It's the most fun to drive on that list. You'll definitely learn things you couldn't have with other cars.

I would definitely choose the s2k. Just checked craigslist, comptech supercharged ap2 for 14.9k. With some suspension mods and 3k more into it, you'd be set!!

I think the S2000 has FLAWLESS handling. It taught me a lot.

It is a perfectly neutral car, as opposed to most modern cars that are tuned to understeer.

You definitely want something like an E30 then. You're going to need something that's easy to handle at the limit and a bit forgiving if you come in too hot. The fact it's a bit down on power will help as well since you'll learn how to hold your speed through the corners instead of relying on your foot to catch you back up on the straight.

What? He's talking about a track car, man. The S2000, while good, is not a perfectly neutral handling vehicle. It's difficult to control at the limit unless you know what you're doing and totally not what you'd want if you're still learning on the track. He'll develop poor habits and rely on power coming out of the corner instead of speed going in.

*I'm not saying the S2000 is a bad car* I looked into buying one in 2004. It's even an alright track car, but it's certainly not a beginner track car. There are so many things you need to learn on the track that don't transition from street driving. You need a well balanced, easy to manipulate and forgiving at the limit vehicle.

OP, if your true goal is to learn and become quick at the track, the best of your options is an E30 or E36. I track both my car and motorcycle and have a good amount of experience with developing good habits. Take my words for what they're worth.

haha come on OP, its the philippines. any car is street legal to be honest miata, s2k, e30 are all good cars. the key is to pick one you can keep running reliably. pick up an older NA or NB miata even if it looks jologs. not having power forces you to make due with driving skill. and tires for 15 inch wheels is cheap
