lol at this thread and the OP. It seems like he's just trying to find a way around it without doing anything because he's upset and lazy.

I know of a lot of tint shops that will charge $10-$20 to remove your front side window tint (that's all you need to remove in CA to be legal). But why spend that much since it's very easy to do yourself and save that money, and takes 1 minute per window... just pull it off and clean the window.

Tint shops around here also charge $50 to put tint back on those front side windows after you have the ticket signed off. So I don't know what's the big deal about removing them, having the ticket signed off, and then getting the tint put back on. It's cheaper than spending $100 for the ticket, and they'll record that so the next time you get pulled over the ticket costs more.

Who? everyone i ask says its gonna cost me about 100+ to get those front windows retinted. As to pulling it off they quote me 60. So its not cheaper for me to pull off the tint and put it back on..

You have the legal right to refute their claim of your violation in a court if you so desire.

While safety as goes your ability to see through the windows is somewhat relevant, the safety issue has more to do with the cops being able to see easily what/who is inside your car. It's for their safety should they stop you that the tint rule exists.

Your point about speeding 4 mph over the posted limit is just as pointless. The speed limits are not ranges, they are precise measures in excess of which one is speeding. If you feel that the law should be rewritten to define speed limits as being "between x and y mph," you should initiate a move to have that be a referendum topic in your state's next election. For now, however, you must simply accept the fact that regardless of how much over the speed limit you are speeding, you are nonetheless speeding and therefore at risk for receiving a citation for having done so. You can eliminate that risk entirely by driving within the posted limits or by not driving at all.

Act like an adult, take responsibility for your own choices and their consequences, and stop crying about the fact that you took a risk and got caught.
Can you honestly say that you always follow the speedlimit? Also im not crying about getting a ticket im simply asking for suggestions as to ways to either get out of a ticket or simply getting a cheap enough shop to fix it for me. Seeing as you have given neither, your comment has no value on this thread.
Thanks for your help but dont bother anymore.

I think CA tint laws are BS. I've gotten pulled over just for having tints even though they are 50%, which is practically clear. If I really wanted to hide my face, all I have to do is move the sunvisor to the side or wear sunglasses and a cap.

They should rewrite the law to allow for 50-60% tints on the front side windows. The benefits would be enormous since they reduce UV and heat=lower skin cancer risk and fuel consumption for A/C.

Haha... actually i think some idiot wanted to pass a law to not have black cars on the road because of emissions reasons from the A/C having to work harder than on lighter colors... If we just all had tinted windows.. think how we could save on emissions and medical bills from smog/skin cancer..

No, I don't always follow the speed limit. I take the risks I want, I go to court or pay the ticket if I get caught.

Sounds like windging to me...take the car to a local shop and ask them to remove it. They'll charge you $20 bucks.

Remover your VIN plate, affix it and your tags to a similar car that lacks tint, take the car in to show that you've dealt with the tint, put your stuff back on your car. Free, but high risk.

Actually all states allow tinting on front windows except for NY, DC, DE, and PA to my knowledge. Our neighbors in AZ and NV allow you to tint up to 35%. Wonder why? Because it's freakin' hot there. They should allow the same for us here in CA......or at least 50%.

This is your idea of not crying about a ticket? You got a ticket and your source of dismay is that your friend can't absolve you of the problem/violation. I would not think you were whinging about it had you simply asked about an inexpensive method for removing the tint. But the fact is that you complained that you were unsuccessful in having somebody else take care of your problem. It's just a step away from "running to Daddy..."

What does the ticket instruct you to do? I'm not being an a**; I'm incredulous that you seem unable to understand what "fix it" means seeing as you said that's what the ticket says to do! Have you even bothered to call the jurisdication that issued the ticket to ask what your options are? I'm sure someone there will be your best, official source of information for what your options are. I'd guess further that the ticket has a phone number (or other information) printed on it (most probably on the back) to facilitate your making that call...

I asked my detailer to do it for me when I got such a ticket. He did it for $20.

If you don't have a detailer friend, try haggling with the folks you've talked to. If you can use them for another service you need performed on your car, that would be especially helpful in getting the price of the tint removal lowered.

Here is another relativelly inexpensive option:
Go here, follow the directions: http://www.tintdude.com/remove.html

Go here for someone else's experience with removing the tint: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-...messy%2c-chea/

Here's hoping any one of my four suggestions helps you resolve your problem.

It is rather zealous that CA, which is often called "Sunny Callifornia," has such limits on the tinting of car windows. Perhaps they see it as a matter of national security...

I just recieved a fix it ticket for my tint. According to the cops meter I had 13% in the back and back sides. I can see through both sides of my windows so I doubt it's that dark.

What really gets me is that he showed me the law on his computer and it is diferent for and suv or truck. How could it possibly have bin logical for someone to say the back of an suv can have tint but not a car. What can I hide in my back seat that someone in an suv can't hide in his entire back seat and cargo are. Thats just completly stupid.

the whole police safety thing is bs. if someone wanted to harm a cop i doubt he would be sitting in his car saying to himself, "id take this guy out if only i had tints." now i understand that some tints seriously reduce visibility but there should be a certain amount allowed. it helps a lot with the AC and the sun. mine actually prevented someone from breaking into my car and taking my ipod while a few of the other cars in my garage were vandalized.
