^ i agree, id like to say there is other stuff on the market that does a better job but there really isnt. its either the Dinan or BMW performance. They are both in the same price range and sound similar.

All the other mufflers just sound like mufflers, just like the magnaflow, it wasnt tuned for sound it was just "built" so it sounds just like a normal magnaflow muffler, which imo american mufflers and exhausts shouldn't be on Euro cars.

i have a hard time believing that the magnaflow gives 12hp gains, but again i wasn't there.

listening to some sound clips, it seems to me that in general the magna flow has a deeper tone than the bmw performance exhaust, agree?

yes. oh ya its deep. thats the difference between just slapping a generic muffler on a car, and sound testing and tuning a muffler for a specific sound.

i'm saying the magna flow is deeper, from your previous post you seem more on the bmw performance band wagon? i'm saying I like the magna flow way better and think it's deeper, the bmw performance pitch is way to high for my personal taste, pretty much going with the magna flow, i think...lol

sounds nice to me

If you want your car to be loud and have a nice tone do 2.5 in piping to the cats. Remove resonator. and put this bad boy on (http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...e=main&id=8801) id also recommend putting dual tips on to make it look nice

I'm with you on this. The PE is nice but it doesn't have the deep sound as a magnaflow. I just had one installed today for $205. That included parts and labor. I really like the sound. It's not too loud and not too quiet. I ended up getting the 12148 model. I'm considering cutting out the resonator for more sound but I need to give it time to break in.

looks like the outlets are too far apart? i haven't really checked it out, assume you use the stock tips, just splices in place of the stock unit?

I'll take some pics soon. The place I went to cut the two default tips out and I had some chrome tips welded closer together.

I just installed the magnaflow catback on my 2006 330i and I agree wholeheartedly. The soundclips of the BMW Performance exhaust sound a little "tinny" at idle. The magnaflow is nice and deep and very unobtrusive at idle and part throttle and it gives a nice euro song as you go full throttle. The quality of the system is top notch with all mandrel bends and use of stainless steel as well as a straight through perforated core for optimum performance. I like it.

cheers! Mike

i purchased mine on ebay from a big seller there by searching the model number of the exhaust system. I had been noticing he posted significantly low prices at times and he has a "make offer" icon in his ads so I offered him $650 shipped and he accepted. The system showed up brand new in the magnaflow box.

cheers! Mike

thanks to Magnaflow, saved me 1000 out of pocket expense.
If you have a chit-chat with a skilled Muffler/Exhaust tech, he'll tell you all you need to know about increasing horsepower with exhaust only, you don't have to go out and spend $1,000 on an aftermarket exhaust for a specific sound (unless that's what you want)... the key is having enough backpressure at key points in the exhaust (i hear an "X-Pipe" will do wonders for backpressure while increasing performance)...

All this depends on configuration of the engine: overhead camshaft/double-overhead camshaft, V6, V8, V10, I6, I4, valve lift levels, etc.... all this comes into factor for demands for different back pressure...

I bought a Magnaflow #16539 exhaust system (complete cat back). I had it installed about a week and a half ago. It has a nice, moderately low note, and makes the sound of good clean power from the engine. It's not at all muffled like someone threw a wet blanket over the tail pieces. If you check Ebay regulary you can get it for low $700s or less. I got for $670, shipped.

I own the #16539 for the 330i. Qualities I LOVE

#1) DEEP tone. Great powerful deep startups (sounds like a 335 ive been told), Throaty but not raspy (the PE is a lot more high pitched in the high RPMs where as the magnaflow shines at low rpms with a deep throaty tone)

#2) There is NO DRONE people! When you press down on the gas, you hear your deep tone noticeably to the point where you can appreciate having an aftermarket exhaust, but as soon as you start to let off it COMPLETELY dissapears. Its awesome.

#3) Its very nice looking (i know many would say not important but..) The tips are custom made specifically for this muffler. They are 3.5 polished tips, double walled slant cut. My favorite tips of all time. Muffler itself is nice and polished up all pretty with the magnaflow stamping.

#4) Noticeable power gain. On 335's, you cant feel 10-15hp. BUT on a 330i, you can. It is smoother and seems to let the car pull harder and more easily throughout the range. With my Eurocharged Tune and the Magnaflow #16539 I dyno'd at around 220 whp.

Cant say I regret anything about my purchase of this exhaust.

For the record I have heard the PE in person several times, and although it sounds very sexy as well, im more of the deep tone powerful sound than a higher pitched more raspy sound. Plus i dont like how PE start ups sounds like dead stock.. Hope this helps.
