Gees people here are assholes. And I don't mean the OP..

He obviously knows the car is plenty fast stock, that's why he suggested suspension mods.

Def don't get a tune. I'm 25 and still drive like I stole my 335i (recently hit over 140MPH :-D). Have your dad help you with college instead of buying a bad invest that will loose 10k+ the first you own it. My parents paid for half my undergrad degree and I paid the other half, then I paid for grad school. Now I can pretty much buy anything I want. Thinking a 911 turbo will be my next purchase.

If your old man buys you a new 335 or even a certified series one, and you really want to mod the engine I would suggest sticking with dinan parts for now, you can get them at the dealer and they're covered under warranty. Im sure you've noticed but theres a lot of threads that deal with voided warranties over aftermarket parts. For some reason it seems like BMW loves to void warranties over non issue matters.

For example the JB3 and Vishnu chips may be a grand less than dinan stage 2 and give you more power but the dinan will maintain your warranty. Dinan stage 2 runs under 2k and packs a lot of punch.
Stage 3 is a little excessive, unless your on the track I promise you wont need it.

Then theres the street. The one problem with fools who want to run you on the street is that they're fools, and a lot of the time they've wasted a lot of money putting spoon engines into their rusted ass civics, you'll lose and boost his already childish ego.
I can also promise you that with that much power you'll be getting ticket after ticket until you either lose your license or worse, parents take your car away. (or half of it at least)

Im not saying you shouldn't get a 335, especially if it's half free. Theres not a person on this forum that wouldn't take that deal. But if you do, and you want to mod, start with rims and springs, IMHO leave the engine alone for now.

Oh and don't cheap out on rims, buy used high end wheels from the forum. Nothing looks dumber than a 50k car with replica rims that look like they were painted by Stevie Wonder. (I hope your old enough to know who he is lol) A good set of used DPE's , HRE's, or BBS will cost roughly the same as a new set of reps so why sacrifice the quality.

+1 fucking million

I don't care how good of a driver you THINK you are, with no experience, you suck. I was there, I thought I was great too, took driving classes and realized I knew nothing.

Use your money on something that will not only make you safer, but if you pay attention, faster too.

i don't know why whenever a kid posts a thread everyone feels the need to rag on him. He's obviously courteous, and although age seemingly has nothing to do with the post, it really does. a 20-something or 30-something year old posting this same thread wouldn't have gotten the same responses. I'm 26, and my first and second car was a 88 Camry and a 95 Pathfinder for about 4 years. Yeah, maybe it's smarter to get a crappy car at first that you can learn on and bang up, but it doesn't always work like that. I personally would never get my kid a sportscar as a first car, no matter how loaded I was, but hey, that's me and that has nothing to do with the OP.

As far as your question, I got my 335 when I was 25. It was significantly faster than my previous two BMW's, a 540 and a 328. What I did was drive the car around stock for several months until I felt like I had a solid feel of it, because if you feel like you are a good driver, chances are you are not. Unless coming from an M or something in that calibur, this car stock is going to feel really fast stock from the second you drive it. My advice to you would be to wait minimum 3-4 months, maybe 6+, then get a JB3 or a JB+ with a DCI. That's the stage I'm at now, and loving it. In a few months I'll probably add a methanol injection system with a intercooler, maybe downpipes to run the higher maps. And please don't buy stupid flashy rims or anything like that...

I wouldn't get suspension if you're concerned about safety. A stiffer suspension is more likely to get your car to step out if you're not careful.

Start with an exhaust; there are plenty of them out there... and installation costs are a lot cheaper than a full coilover setup (if that's the route you were going).

I remember a reporter asking a driver why he crashed. The driver said, "I went into turn two and ran out of talent". LMAO
I don't have a problem with a kid driving a brand new bimmer. Hell, I'm only 24, but I worked my ass off for every cent of every car I ever owned. It's not really relevant either way, just means I'll enjoy every ride a little more

There's no reason to bash the kid. He already stated he is on the forum to learn about his future car not get bashed for being so called "spoiled". Which I don't think he is. A 30k first car is not spoiled. I've seen kids driving porsches, so this is in no way over doing it. But I do have to admit, you are one lucky kid. My first car was a civic, which I drove to driving school since my dad taught me how to drive really early in life.

But on to the mods, the first thing I bought was a tune. I love it. The car is completely different now, but like others have said, I would not recommend that. For suspenion, I would think a nice set of coilovers would be perfect. You'll have fun messing with the set up for awhiles. Other than that find some wheels that you would like and it would set you back. Haha

give this kid a break guys... i was 18 when i got my e92, but it was my 3rd car (been driving since i was 15)... and its got full stage 3 performance mods and i drive 10 mph over the speed limit MAX... i leave the speed for the track... just because he is young only means he has a higher chance of being reckless but that doesn't mean he definitely is going to crash into a wall the second he pulls out of the dealer lot lol...

no offense but a lot of you are just being jealous... just give the kid the advice he is looking for.

OP: if i had a limited budget and wanted to get the most out of my money i'd get:
JB3 pinout
DCI
coilovers
19" wheels with non runflats
and whatever cosmetic mods you want to do (but please don't black out your tails or put neon or anything like that)

Good job in stating your age too. Hell, tell everybody how much your parents make and how much they paid for your car. Aren't you the one who once stated under his 'drives' list his parents' cars? Brilliant idea.

ok asshole i was giving an example, but i guess you aren't bright enough to realize that. and yes, last year when i just joined i had my mom's car on the drives because it was a bimmer as well and this is a forum for bmw's so i thought it was fitting. I don't see the problem with putting a car that you drive probably more than your car on the "drives" list especially if it parks right next to your car in your garage (i can see if your parents live in another state or something but that isn't the case for me). My family doesn't drive our nicer cars as DD's. We have a suburban that we throw around so we don't put that many miles on our nicer ones. but anyways, great addition to the thread

Damn guys i understand he shouldnt have put his age in the title but hop off his nuts. Everyone was a teenager once and his dad obviously thinks its ok to help him buy it (or has enough money to not care). Atleast he is committed to buying it (IE saving his own money for it) and it sounds like hes done his research.

Occasionally there is such a thing as a responsible teenager

so true

in this volatile market, if u day trade everyday you can easily make 5% daily which would mean you could afford your m6 in the same amount of time as daddy would take to buy you your 335
