I always make sure i have 3 levels of protection, first being the factory fitted alarm, second being a steering wheel lock and third is the two cars always parked up the drive infront of mine!!
But this doesn't stop it happening during the day, so if anyone finds a fix, let me know |

pitty not more local, might have to have a road trip.
Without going into detail online, does it prevent the obd port being used to reprogramme keys? Can it still be accessed at time of service?

Cheers MArt1000.
I currently looking into hiding one of these in the motor, i know it is not like the monitored systems but for £50 i think it is worth a punt. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Realti...item3f1569e2c4

My window was smashed last week and it looked like it was an attempt to steal my but luckily they were disturbed during the process. A few days later a BMW 1M was stolen from a neighbouring area in the same manner as described above.
I've done a few things to ensure it will be much more difficult to steal if they try to do it again. Annoyingly they scratched my door and I had to remove both front seats to clean up the glass. Also the alarm didn't seem to go off I have comfort access so I wouldn't have accidently pushed the button on the fob twice. Last edited by idnan; 04-13-2012 at 12:05 PM.. |

Does pushing the button twice deactivate the alarm?

I thought if you have a JB or an Evolve switch etc, you could just delete the map from the car. No map, not start.
That'd certainly slow thieves down wouldn't it. Yes they might have tools to remap the car on the spot but I wonder how many would think to carry the kit with them? Would they have enough maps for all the cars? To be fair, a determined and skilled thief ain't going to be stopped.

I spoke to Terry who designed the JB4 and he said he could add it as a feature but his worry is that people might activate it by accident and he would be flooded with messages from users who can't start their car.
The JB wouldn't delete the map, it would require a code or button press sequence to switch on power to the coils. If the code isn't activated, no power to coils=no start. Your last comment is spot on though, if they want it bad enough then they will take. |

I just put some dummy details on confused.com
Seems at least for now, the insurance on an E90 is about the same as last year before this OBD security flaw became known. |

Will have to take a few hours off work to get it done. Still cheaper than having to buy a new car though esp if I had to get a Mer..., Mer..., another brand which is harder to steal. |
