If you are getting a lot of wheel hop, you need to get out of the throttle, that is like a heart attack for drivetrain components.
If you are doing 20 or 40 MPH rolls, try brake boosting, it will load of the drivetrain so there isn't as much shock compared to a straight WOT punch. Keep in mind brake boosting has its draw backs on the internals of the drivetrain and brakes. There is a give and take for making power and putting it down. |

If they are using the same axles maybe, but aggressive driving and especially wheel hop will grenade axles and other components. Anytime I got wheel hop in my car, I got out of it. Even at the track, it's just not worth it.

There was a member here who was going back to stock, and we planned to swap my stock half shafts, for his DSS upgrades. We got his car up on the lift and had a hard time getting the "one time use" nuts off the end of the axles. The person that put the DSS shafts on did not spend the $10 for new ones. Because they are staked, they destroyed the threads on the end of the half shafts, so I passed. Last edited by scottp999; 12-17-2012 at 02:29 PM.. |

Sure. Heavier, less rigid chassis, maybe prone to more wheel hop too. But your point is taken, wheel hop bad.

OP - I thought you were getting Vargas turbos?
Sorry to hear about your issues. Now I'm worried about my AT and axles after the turbo upgrades soon.

I couldn't wait, if i waited id be without my car till this day. If my stock turbos didn't blow i would have went Vargas. but now I'm wishing i waited for stage 3's lol.. I have no clue what I'm putting down. Cars with my same mods on n54tech broke into lower 500s, haven't had a chance to dyno I've only had my car for a little over a week and now its back at the shop lol

Wow, I was really surprised to hear you broke your 3rd. Then I read above. You need to get an LSD installed asap Sounds like you spent a lot of money on mods and repairs. To NOT have an LSD installed with all the power, and your love of hard launches, just doesn't make sense (scratches head). It's a night and day difference.

Maybe the extra weight from the e93 is putting more stress on the axles?

I'm shocked that you could break a shaft from a 20mph roll. Your car must have been bouncing like it had hydraulics. I would imagine that most of the 500lbs extra the vert gets is over the rear wheels. Why were you trying to do 20mph highway rolls anyways? Where you trying to do a rolling burnout or something? This isn't a little ricer car and from the looks of your sig, your treating it like one.

Very impressive failure. Pat yourself on the back for that. Have you considered trying to upgrade to M3 parts? M3 rear end with LSD, M3 half shafts (much more robust than 335)? The big hurdle seems to be the driveshaft (length plus diff output from tranny and input into diff). I've been contemplating this for my MT. Going to see if DSS can make a driveshaft for $1000. It would be much much cheaper than going after market LSD and DSS axles. I'm not sure what the differences for AT would be but might be worth looking into. Good luck.
