Is there something specific about the engine or is it just that not too many have done it?

Found this from Malone Tuning...I'll probably get this done for my Golf. Malone has tuning listed for 535d on their site. I wonder if this may be an option for us soon.

I've also seen that GM and Ford seem to have a leg up in DI tech...EGR and crankcase venting had to be re-engineered...hmmm, wow.

Thoughts?
Supposedly Meth won't get it done unless the injection point is right behind the intake ports. I've heard this before where only the area an inch or so after the injection point stays "clean".

I dont know yet if meth helps clean at all, but I can tell you that it is FTW, with JBD cranked to 100% and the meth going you can really tell the difference in top end, doesnt huff and puff above 4k like it did before meth install. Speedo climbs MPH now like it climbed KMH stock.

W/M cleaning is for the combustion chambers themselves and things downstream in the exhaust. Improved combustion efficiency, lower EGT and steam effect is what does the work there. Not going to do much on the intake side, regardless of injector placement.

hmmm...so the only real maint w/m injection would provide is less junk through the egr since in theory the spent exhaust would be cleaner.

I really don't care one bit about adding power at this point. But, if we are going to keep the car for a while installing a few hundred dollars of maint equipment isn't out of the question.

so is OP stating that codes being thrown off states there is carbon build up that needs to be fixed?..or just noted, since it still drives fine?

So if car breaks down and wont run anymore due to carbon build up or bad injectors due to carbon build up issues, your CPO still wouldnt cover it?.

If that is the case I would be really irate at BMW and my dealer as I bought a CPO car specifically because I didnt want to deal with the carbon build up issue on my dime.

I know if that does happen to me and both my local BMW dealerships refused to fix this under CPO I would be lawyering up, as this more times than not, has a magical way of fixing things.

Also, MB bashing and documentations can do the same thing also.

Sorry for being unclear. I meant it if the car was still under warranty.

I'm trying to stay calm at the moment and study all options along the way. I'll try another dealer first, then go from there.

I'm hesitant to do this under cpo...but not if cpo coverage doesn't actually cover anything.

The SES light has come on twice and gone out after a few restarts. I dropped it off today and got a call with "news". They were still able to pull the related codes. One for DEF fluid crystallization and the other...carbon buildup, of course. The car runs great...mileage is as expected and even banged out 38 mpg on a trip so I wasn't expecting carbon buildup but the car has CPO coverage so I should be ok...

Since it's CPO the SA says that unless a part is found that falls under CPO warranty is broken all costs are mine and that this issue should be described as a maintenance item. Even if an issue is found that is covered items such as intake manifold gaskets are not. Huh?!?!

For some reason I was under the impression that this issue was covered under CPO since it is discovered by degraded engine performance and/or SES light. We aren't talking about oil change needed...this condition creates diagnostic codes.

Has anyone successfully fought this fight and won?
bullshit. call bmwna. everyday. do you have a lawyer friend?. mine was covered.

The fact was mentioned earlier and still stands- most BMW dealerships really do want the work. Keep driving it until other codes are thrown. Give them something to work with that allows them to get in there, and definitely try another dealer.

The nice thing here in LA is that I have 14 BMW dealerships in driving distance. Not everyone has that opportunity and I would've been screwed a time or two myself if I had only had the one dealership.
