I'm pretty sure Terry designed these with track and race drivers in mind, not for everyday users.

Interesting, I'll watch these and let more people buy them and hear some more reviews. If there aren't any issues I may pick up a set.

where would you put the alarm switch and the sensor on the pass side? does make the under hood much cleaner and would be nice to not have to R&R the cowl just to do anything to the car...

I should have these show up in the mail tomorrow. I'm planning to run them at least until the winter season kicks in. I'm looking forward to more convenient maintainance and increased engine cooling. As far as water issues, Terry states he has braved all weather conditions for years without a cowl on the car.

Perhaps someone can fabricate a lightweight plastic piece to function in place of the cowl for those who would like the extra security/place to mount the under hood sensors?

You cold also install the m3 cowl if you feel that the filters are not adequate to protect from water.

I just electrical taped them down to other wiring running along the sides, they're doing just fine there a year + later.

I just leave the HVAC cover on, along with those two plastic covers on each side. Keeps torrential rain off parts, and outside of that i'm just not worried about mist and wator vapor. If your DME box is not properly sealed, water will get in with the morning dew. A plastic cowl hanging overhead won't do squat to keep mist from getting in. The way I see it, electronics are either properly water tight, or they're not. I suppose an absolute deluge of water could cause issues, but my car has sat through a tropical storm w/out the cowl...no issues.

I'm not worried about it, nice design by Terry

You mean, like a cowl? Haha

There is no risk of water damage as all connectors are water-tight and without the cowl not much water runs in the engine bay anyway. But if using fresh air mode the outside air filtration won't be as good using the factory filter isolated from the engine bay vs. these smaller filters. On the other hand, these really improve sound, make engine bay access a lot easier, and IMHO look pretty clean. Not going to be for everyone but I'm happy this product exists now for those of us who want them.

Hah precisely, but I mean something along the lines of the M3 cowl or simply a plate over the DME box. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to using these new filters.

FYI, just washed me car and had approximately 3 drops of water sitting on the top of the stock cabin filter piece, I'm fairly certain running without will not be an issue

that's what i planned on doing

just get some thin sheets of plastic, epoxy them together (sides+top), paint black rattle can... just JUST in case there's the slightest chance of water getting into the filter from above..

i've been assured there's no chance, but... yeah, bit big of a risk :P

i don't understand all teh fuss over potential damage to other things.. there's nothing back there unsealed that water can harm anyway

even if water DID fall onto the turbos when hot, it would have to POUR and i mean liters, to cause any harm lol

I washed my car with the BMS cowl filters... I tried with the wipers down and then tried again with the wipers up... with the wipers up it allowed some water to fall onto the engine cover, with the wipers down it didnt. BMS filters partial got wet.

Water did fall on the ecu box, but only on the end near the firewall...

Their oem hoods have special guides that prevent water from hitting the turbo, and re route the water away from the engine area.

I would like the improved sound, but the engine bay looks pretty ugly with the zip-ties holding things in place, not a clean look at all.

Neither of our cars are "show" cars for engine bays to look pretty. But at the end of the day its your choice to use zipties or not.

Only time I open my hood is for oil changes, so I could careless if the zipties are white, black or golden, or none at all. Function is what I'm after.

That is true, everyone has a different opinion. I personally put a lot of work into keeping my engine bay neat and tidy so I would not like to use those zip-ties.

I just pulled those hanging cables out since I didn't want to use zipties. Now my car won't start, could it be the new filters?

My engine bay is kept fairly clean, but I’m about that ziptie life. Zipties on zipties lol.

The cleanest option for the cable routing with the cowl out is to remove the plastic mounting bracket (it pops right off) and then use two black zipties to secure the cables to the strut brace. One on each side.
