The last time I went was in '06. Saw Schumacher's 4th consectutive and final win at the USGP. I saw the transition from V10 to detuned V10 to V8 but the sound clip of the 2014 cars is a shocking comparison. Sad really.

I know that after this turbo V6 ordeal, if they brought back NA V8-V10-V12 engines, I would be scrambling for tickets, mainly because I'd be afraid they'd go back to turbo V6's again! lol
I had planned on going to the American F1 races at COTA but never made it. Now I'm kicking myself, because there's no way I'd spend that kind of money to see F1 with today's engines. I would though if they bring back the awesome sounds in a heartbeat. |

Speed, sound, driver skill, state of the art technology -- the primary things that have drawn me to F1.
Thankfully '14 brings a shakeup at the top, new driver talent, and increased parity throughout the field. It's also entertaining to watch the drivers skills as they try to maximize pace with the new car/powerplant. All good, because if it were still Vettel just streaking away from the field I'd find it nearly unwatchable. In the past the sound could literally keep me tuned into a race when there was nothing left to be determined. I will be less inclined to attend the NYGP if/when that happens now. Not saying I won't, but if the cars still made the right noises I'd be there without question. I think Bernie knows the deal and will push through a change. Soon please. Had they polled the F1 audience before this change I bet the support for the new engines/sound would have been in the low single digits. Why they would do something that is so entirely at odds with the fans' wishes is beyond me.

The sci fi sound is cool. All they needed to do was add the bigger Kers (MGU K) to the V8s for 2014 and add turbo/MGU H later on. There were too many changes this year.

I've wondered about how much F1 depends on race attendance. There's a few tracks on the calender each year that look like no one is there at the track watching the race.
IF, attendance IS important, I bet this year it goes way down because of the lack of good sounds, and hopefully they'll wake up and make changes before it irreversably hurts F1 . It's not impossible to make everyone happy in this situation. We have the technology to accomplish both sounding good, AND being on the forefront of eco-friendly "green" racing. |

If the racing is good and Vettel is in jeopardy of losing the title. The viewership will as strong as ever.

I also don't mind the new sound. I thought the on-board clips were pretty cool. Lots of turbo noises! Really enjoyed the racing too. Good to shake things up.
