Black-chinned Hummingbird Flying (Explored) by dcstep, on Flickr
This got Explored on Flickr and reached #17 on Fluidr, resulting in 21,337 views in 36-hours. Getting Explored on Flickr isn't really a guarantee of quality, since a computer makes the selections, using an logarithm. I have found that posting your images at the beginning of Flickr's day (6 p.m. Mountain Time) increases the odds that it'll be picked up in Explore; otherwise, I have no real idea how it works. Dave

Nice shot, DC. How do you know if one of your images gets Explored (aside from the huge hit count)?

Thanks guys.
Dave congrats on another Explore. Pretty epic views there in such a short time. ------------ Took the bike out last night for some photo-shootin' More light painting fun for me Sammael on the Town by ddk632, on Flickr |

Grabbed the 6D tonight to get this shot with the 400 5.6 in very low light. I'm still amazed at what the 6D can do with high ISO shots. And the 400 5.6 is still earning its keep despite my new Siggy 120-300.
ISO 10000

The Siggy is the same way. Very hefty and hard to hold still for long.
Love your barrels, btw. Wine is a good thing, although Scotch has really become a favorite lately.

Oh sure. Maybe +40 in PS. Not too extreme. Pretty good crop, too. Maybe 50%. Was a landscape shot originally.

Haha, no. Just too much background and not enough raccoon.

With DxO, I have to roll back the default NR setting in order to preserve details, but, with that adjustment, it works well. Dave

Here's one with DxO's PRIME noise reduction applied at a setting that's about 85% of the default. It's only ISO 1600, but I could see both chromanance and luminescence at 100%, so I went ahead and used PRIME, instead of DxO's usual NR. PRIME takes 5 to 10-minutes per image, where the normal NR takes between 5 and 10-seconds, so I don't use PRIME lightly.
I see you... by dcstep, on Flickr

Also, just wanted to say, Ed - the ridiculous sharpness/clarity of those wine grapes is surreal. They are literally coming out of my screen. Very cool shot but I think it's the lens/bokeh that makes it special... the 100-400 has some nice smooth bokeh!

Thanks! The old "Dust Pump" is a very underrated lens I think. I still use mine regularly, even though I also have the newer Tamron 150-600. They both have their place, but mainly the AF on the Canon is still superior, and I was shooting my buddies dogs that day, and just loved the background area of all the vineyards.
