it's the BMC airfilter holding your numbers back.
Throw in the K&N and you'll be golden. Just look at it this way, regardless of what the numbers say, you are close to where you should be. FYI, I've seen and heard of aftermarket exhaust systems actually robbing power in some cars. Maybe it's the magnaflow exhaust. ?? Some aftermarket exhaust systems aren't designed the best with power additions in mind, they are designed for sound and may actually hurt, not help. Also, look at it this way, with any other tune you need to run race gas to get better results than the v2 on pump gas. Your torque numbers are nice and high FWIW. That tells me you have the power down low, but might not have all you could in the mid to high rpm range where peak HP is made. That again could be from lack of enough air getting in, or a restriction from your aftermarket exhaust that might actually not be as free flowing as the stocker...small chance but possible. |

I've done a few Evo dyno days up there (Portland, Seattle, etc,.) in the past few years and i was always dissappointed with the results. And i've used more than a couple different dynos. I used to joke about your 92oct being worse than our 91oct. i think there might be some truth to this.

Shiv, quick question. My car NEVER had an oil change and it has 18k miles and half level of oil. I have an appt on Wed for on oil change. Is it possible for the engine to perform poorly (dyno less in this case) due to the above oil reasons?

My joke to the guys was that I NEVER break in new cars according to manufacturer specs - I drive 'em out of the showroom like I stole it - even did this with the 997TT - I started doing this a few years back when I did ED on an E39 M5 - the BMW rep that handed the car over insinuated the break-in was a good way to get the new owner accustomed to the car and its capabilities rather than any technical reason - this debate was as big as Procede vs XXXXX on the bimmer.org board a few years back.

BMW oil change requirments are absolute bs. They have to pay for oil changes/maintenence so its no surprise that they don't necessary recommend what is best for your engine. FWIW, I changed to nonsynthetic oil at 100 miles. Did another change at 500 miles. And then again every 3000-4000 miles. With nearly 30k on the clock, my oil has been changed several times. I switched to synethic at around 5000 miles. Shiv |

Ok...did you go to Carb Connections in Kirkland? that's where I go, I have a basline there + several runs on 1.45. They kept trying to run the car incorrectly.... (I have a step) a few times in 3rd gear, several times in 4th gear but starting at 3000 rpm's. I finally talked them into letting me do it. I put it in sport mode, got it into 4th gear, then started at 2000 rpms. It went perfectly. my 1.47 numbers were about 330 hp and 380 torque.
So I guess what I'm trying to figure out is first if you did in fact go to CC, and second did they run your car properly. If you ended up going to Auburn, then I feel somewhat foolish for writing all this.

I'm wondering if my low/old oil had something to do with it. I'm going back soon to get a baseline and try again after oil change.

Just make sure you start at 2000 rpms in 4th gear. I had jeff running my car....and the first 6-7 runs showed terrible numbers, until he let me get in the car and do it correctly. He also forgot to set the fans up in front of the car...until I said something about it.

You need to buy a supra man.........those things lay down some killer dyno numbers!!
But seriously, my highly refined and accurately tuned butt dyno tells me my car runs better on some days than others, even when the DA should be close on all the days. It also seems pretty sensitive to oil temp, she seems quite a bit slower until I get the oil above 200 degrees. These DME's in the cars also do all sorts of crazy things with boost depending on conditions, I've never driven a turbo car that seems to get faster immediately after 2-3 hard runs when most cars would be heatsoaked. Don't sweat the numbers man, they really don't mean a whole lot. If you're running 93 octane and 14.5-15 psi of boost, you're making the same power everybody else is on V2.

That will in fact cause more friction and loss of some power. It's not like it'll rob you of 20 hp or anything, but it very well could be attributed to 5 or so. |

Well, the stealer did not want to change the oil until the car signaled to.
And I didn't feel like I should pay $100 for the oil change because it is included in the warranty. So I just waited... but I do have an appointment in a couple of days, then I re-dyno and see.

+10, what's 75$ bucks, when you are driving the car under heavy load (running a piggy-back)? Another reason why not to purchase a used car.

I'm running V2. But i did what the dealer said. So if anything gets messed up, it's their god damn fault for being so cheap.
