Do what I did, find an out-of-town Carphone Warehouse or similar with a car park right outside then grab a salesperson with the sample phones and take them to the car and try it.

I now do it every time I change the phone as even firmware upgrades on the same phone can effect the operation.

Then buy the phone from elsewhere if you like of course.

Hiya,

If you go to your bluetooth settings, there will be a list of paired devices. Find the car kit in the list, under options there will the option of set as authorised.

It will then connect without the confirmation

You are a technical telephonic god. Happy to conffirm that the phone and car do not need any further introduction to mate.

My Nokia 6234 connects fine, although it's not a very modern phone.

My N95 is very hit and miss. Have had to download software for the Nokia Hands Free Kit (so my phone thinks it's a hands free kit) but works 50% of the time.

My business partners 3g iphone seems to work a treat; I have no idea which version of software he has though.

I'm using a blackberry curve. It works fine. Address book synchronisation took a while first time, but it connects very quickly now.

The iPhone software (pre-v2.0) didn't work in my wife's 130i (Nov05), I was going to get the car updated, but the stealers wanted an hours labour and couldn't guaranty it would fix it. However Apple have obviously changed the bluetooth firmware in the iPhone recently because now I can connect, call, receive and get phonebook as I can in the M3 without any problems.

When the 130 goes in for a service I'll get them to do a full update of all xCAN modules while they're there, for future bluetooth changes.

3G Iphone and Blackberry all have worked fine in all iterations of bimmers I've had. As has been stated, they prefer the 2.0 version... (though there's a new update out, 2.2 I think... which stops winterboard working... booooo)

Yes, 3G iPhone works very well indeed. Only thing that does not work is text messaging. You cannot send or see received texts (could on the e46 with a Nokia 6230i).

I have a Nokia 6230i with cradle you can have for £15. It's fully compatible on the 2006 UK/Euro vehicles but BMW says it doesn't on a US spec but only after 18 months.
