My former E46 had a similar issue. It was repaired and it did not resolve the issue. My E90 has the same problem. I have learned to accept it. My only word of advice would be to raise the seat a little. It tends to help some.

The funny thing is when you push against it the noise went away.

I also have rattling/creaking with my front basic non-zsp seats particularly when unoccupied
Its not noisy enough to drive me batty but evident enough to be annoying when driving alone with the radio off. Will try some of the solutions as suggested on this thread e.g. lubricants before a visit to the dealer.

I hear a pop in my seat, which is the same I think as what most of you said. Mine seems to be from the front. I hear it when I put pressure towards the front (slowing down, pressing brakes etc) I noticed if I play with my seats enough and find the perfect spot, it stops 80%. As with the e46, a lot has to do with all that damn plastic parts used in and around the seats, less plastic, and using something softer would stop this!

I also got some creaking noises from my driver's seat. Like plastic rubbing against plastic. It seems to have become more noticeable with the warmer weather.
I plan to get the dealer to attend to it when I go in for the emissions recall in a couple of weeks.

Let's see.... I've got:
- The driver seat creak (just started happening this week - oh joy) - The annoying ticking sound (my dealer said they couldn't reproduce this problem on the drive test) - The creaking rear shelf thing (also a recent addition to my list of noises) - And a weird shaking noise that I can't really describe - it's like something in the back is vibrating and I really can't figure out what the hell would be causing it ...and I thought my old TT was noisy! I really expected better build quality out of BMW. The worst part about any of these noises is that they are sometimes hard to replicate, often times difficult to communicate to the dealer, and almost always end up in the the service guys messing around with parts & stuff they don't need to in order to isolate the noise, which in itself, causes more problems and more noises. Sometimes I wish I drove a s*itbox as I would expect these types of problems. |

You could locate it by applying finger pressure on the problem point while trying to duplicate the creak (eg. brake, squirm back and forth in your seat). Once you have the correct point, the sound should disappear, until you release pressure from the problem point. Mine (and perhaps yours too) is located where the metal band of the seat cover meets the seat base on the right near the front, ie. next to the transmission tunnel. Just run your fingers along the base of your seat from the middle part towards the front and you'll feel this metal band that straps around the bottom. This was the offending part for me.

Well some good news, of sorts...
My seats were (as I have previously written) squeaking like a whore's bed. The dealership did something to them and they were OK for a few weeks, but then the problem resurfaced. Solution!!?? I went on a 4,000km drive and the problem seems to have gone. Perhaps sitting on them constantly for 4 days wore the squeaky parts away... LOL

Just demand a new seat frame, as there is clearly something wrong with the existing components. I have complained and the new parts have been ordered. It is just unnaceptable to have to put up with this sort of crap.
If more customers take this action it will force BMW to acknowledge the problem and work to prevent it in future production runs. Go for it I say and put an end to these ridiculous seat squeaks. |

Went to the dealership yesterday to address lumps on passenger side bottom cushion (standard leathrette seats) and the ocassional rattle/squeak. First of all, the SA blew off my complaint about the rattles/squeaks saying that it is not uncommon. He gave the reason being the many joints etc that makes up the seat so rattles/creaks which are not overly loud are within specs. On the lubricating solutions, that was just about scoffed at by the CA. He mentioned that he has never heard of such a solution and that I should't believe everything I read on the internet I let that one go, it was too darn early in the morning to argue.
On the tumors or lumps on the bottom cushion, it looks like I need to have my passenger recognition sensor mat replaced and will be doing that next week. So if you guys are experiencing this issue, you might want to check it out with your dealership. Apparently, they had just seen a similar problem on another car...
