SCREW EDMUNDS.....those idots couldn't test a car if their life depended on it. When "Car and Driver" and "Toad and Track" and others test the two cars face to face in all conditions and get official performance times (0-60, 1/4, skid-pad) then I will listen.

Did you guys read the article? The 335i overheated on lap 4 of Edmunds test, they had been driving it all day with other journalists. There is no indication anywhere that some autos have a flaw that causes them to run hot. There is information that points to cars without the cooler overheating. If it makes you feel better talking about how you "drive hard" and never see above 240, great... hotlap the car for an hour.

Driving on the highway at 90mph for 6 hours isn't flogging.

Do I think this is the end of the world? No. I am more irked that BMW chose to omit a $100 part from a $45,000 car.

Toad and Track? Is that like an advanced version of Frogger?

Infinti is such a poser brand it's not funny. On the other hand maybe this is for the better that way I'll see more of these souped up rental cars on the street and less 335's
Track stresses are way more that a few acceleration runs.

I agree-those are conditions that maybe 5 percent of the people buying these cars are going to be subjected to anyway. Bmw should have covered themselves and made all of them to the same standard so that potential 'tests' couldn't expose this kind of weakness. Besides, its nothing that driving the car normally with the heater blasting couldn't have corrected, all cars can run hot when abused like that...

Edmunds did the test, not Nissan.

Well, we're up to four now, but I see your point.

You did hot lap your car? I didn't know that. What were the conditions? I have also done something very similar to hot lapping and did not overheat, however as you know my car does run hotter than "average". It seems like it does take some doing to overheat the cars; that's why I am not having a total fit about it - still, you have to admit the omission of the oil cooler is rather puzzling.

I don't think Edmunds has any bias toward infiniti, that's for sure. They're usually gushing about Bmws just like all the other car publications. Seeing the new design of the Infiniti coupe, Bmw doesn't have to worry about losing too much market share to the G37

Sounds to me that they were saying both cars were Automatics.

This all-too-dramatic demonstration of Japanese-versus-German engineering occurred at Nissan's Arizona Test Center where Infiniti invited a select group of journalists to drive the 2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe back-to-back with Germany's best
The 335 was beat on in the Arizona heat all day with journalist and then did 4 laps. No kidding the NA motor would do better than the biturbo motor.

You just quoted exactly what I said. I will agree however it is very likely it was an automatic without the oil cooler as this is probably the reason for the overheating issue.

An NA motor without adequate cooling would have suffered the same fate.

I would tend to think the turbo engine would have heatsoaking issues more than the NA motor.

And I would tend to think BMW would include oil coolers on all their 335s to compensate for that.

I would hand my car over to edmunds, and pay them 100 bucks if they could get it to overheat... I tried really hard, almost 30 laps, and the thing would not get over 260F... then I hear reports of people flooring it on back roads, and seeing temps above 280F... now whats with that?
