For what is worth, the Micheling PSS are not my recommendation because they have VERY VERY soft sidewall. If you live in an area with rough roads, prepare for a lot of bubbling on the side walls which means, replacing tires.

Other than that, they wear well, do not get too greasy and perform surprisingly well in the wet as well. You have to watch the tire pressure like a hawk on them because grip changes drastically when the tire pressure is off by just couple of psi.

maybe this why they started not gripping well?

The SS is probably the best compromise tire of very good dry and wet traction with long treadwear. They won't hook 2nd at the power level you are talking about. The AD08 will as I assume r888 and Re-11 also. I agree the PSS has too soft of side walls. Also the PSS run skinny, not wide. AD08 in identical size have 0.5" wider treads. Factor this in before you try to swap tires to the same size as a PSS. You may be in for a surprise when they rub. If you can fit a 275mm AD08 you can do a 285 PSS.

Yes, but with the PSS the change in grip due to change in tire pressure is more acute than with other tires that I've used before. I think a lot of it has to do with the soft sidewalls.

OP was looking for stickiest. Nitto 555's would be that for a street tire as all the top non drag slick cars run them. Like anything else there is a trade off in that they might not have the all round capabilities of a PSS or DW.

EDIT added "NOT" it was left out in the original post.

Soft sidewall compared to...? When I think soft sidewall, the Conti DW comes up first. And I will go through great lengths to avoid pot holes! As for tire pressure, it's fairly important and you should check it often no matter what tire you're running:

You do bring up a good point as these kinds of threads always get way off topic with everyone and their mother throwing in their opinion. So the OP needs to look at where the opinions are coming from, and make his opinions from those...

On this topic there is the Tire Rack reviews were the PSS is clearly the outright leader in the category from the customer reviews and their tire tests. Here is the link for the customer surveys where it leads in just about every category:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...ay.jsp?type=MP

And from the Tire Rack's own testing, here is the quote from the summary:
"The Michelin Pilot Super Sport has once again demonstrated that it's the reigning king of the hill in the category with impressive handling." http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=162

Agree, I have DW's but if I was still into weekly drag racing I would run 555's. Good traction on launch but not so good you will be shelling parts on every other launch.

Michelin Pilot Super Sport are the best tires I used so far on any of my cars. I'm not putting more than 450HP, but the grip I get in the corners and rain is unbelievable.
I've used the Bridgestone RE-11 and Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec in the past, and I have to say that the Re-11 was good but heavy compared to the SS, and the Star Spec was great but got 2 flats before one season of driving, so upgraded to the SS. Plus the Michelin have the best looking sidewall from all of them. I have to say that these are the best tires those far I've ever used. Mind you i'm awd and street only driver.

I love the Pilot Super Sports, I made 380whp/430wtq and if its dry out and road conditions are decent. I can hook first by easing it in without breaking traction or having the DSC light kicking on at all. Pretty crazy if you ask me.

Wet grip is insane as well, if I am going 40 in 3rd and I floor it and it is wet out. I still don't break traction.

I tried a variety of tires and i think the AD08's work very well in the dry but you do have to watch out for aquaplaning in the wet. Great Tires overall.

This is comparing it to Eagle F1 A2, Michelin PS3, RE050AS pole position.

Little bit dated since they are testing with the PS2 which was replaced by the PSS at the end of 2010.

Is there a lot of tread left? I want something different, how are the sidewalls/shoulders are the flat or rounded?

when you guys say Nitto 555, are you talking about the Nitto NT 555 Extreme Performance ? or the 555R II extreme?
