I've had mine for almost a week and you can hear the turbos spool really good, no smell, washed my car and it looks like it doesn't affect anything really, and a major plus is that my hood is not as hot as it use to be, so it definitely helps with cooling

+1 ... also the ECU box is exposed which can be dangerous if h2o went in .. the hood sits on the cowl cover which once removed could open doors to water making its way to the engine top cover underwhich coils sit etc, I'd totally stay away from these filters

This mod would be awesome if it could be proven that water will not enter where it's not supposed to, which I think may have been disproven by the pics in one of the earlier posts. If someone designed something simple to replace the cowl an flow water correctly, that might be what people are looking for.
I would love to be able to better hear my turbos spool and forge DVs release, but not willing to risk it at this point.

I've run this in the rain already this week without issues and I drive 30k+ miles a year. I also don't care about the looks of my engine bay. It does help keep engine bay temps cooler as well. I may try and protect the ecu side with something but if you have it sealed properly it should be alright.
I think if it was named Vishnu Cowl filters, this thread would be reacted to differently.

Water on the turbo isn't a concern. Lots of turbos are open to the elements, heck, STS makes their turbo kits at the back of the exhaust, open to splashing/etc. Aircraft engines operate just fine in the rain (yes, I know inside vs outside but still). This is a non-issue. The electronics possibly getting wet is worth looking at. Some splashing on your turbo is nothing. At all.

If people have run for years with no filters and no cowl and no issues how is it possible it will be worse adding the filters?
If you like the cowl fine then use it. If you don't like it this is a good option. |

For those worried about water I saw this posted today on BMS' forum:
"Wasn't expecting to be out in some major storms this morning. But it down-poured multiple times different directions while driving and stopped. After I pulled into work under shelter, popped hood not one drip of water around the filters or anything else. Only water was from my hood dripping as I lifted it up. So for those worried about water getting in there not issue from what I just saw and drove thru. Well done Terry, another top notch product from BMS!" Mike |

My car sat outside during Tropical Storm whatever (don’t remember the name lol) last fall for 2 days and nights of pouring, non-stop rain. I’m talking an absolute deluge of water. No cowl, no problems. And the car was on a downhill slope, so water would be inclined towards pouring into the engine bay. It’s really, really not a big deal IMO. If your DME box is not water tight, you are screwed regardless of whether a piece of plastic happens to be hanging overhead.

It's some plastic being replaced by less plastic...don't overthink it bud. You will be OK. I understand people are worried about the DME box, but again just think it through. If it's not water tight....it ain't water tight and your electronics are finished. Doesn't need to actually have water flowing over it to short the electronics.

I drove a month or two without my cowl. Turbo spool and Bov sounds 200% louder, but it also made my car sound like a 15 year old civic at idle. Too much ticking noise at idle made me put my cowl back on.

It is a bad idea to remove the cowl. The cowl serves a purpose of keeping toxic fumes out of your driver area and diverts water around important electrical parts in the engine bay like the ECU compartment. Unless you enjoy breathing in fumes from the engine bay on a daily basis I would not recommend running this at all.

I would love to be able to hear the turbo spool more but am more concerned about ticking at idle more than anything. I'll probably drive it for a bit without the cowl to see if it's worth it or not.
