Maybe I missed it somewhere on this forum.... but would it be possible to update a 2009 E90 to the idrive software currently available on the 2010 models? I'd love to be able to get that new left hand tab in the satellite radio that allows some crazy new navigation. I forget exactly what it has, but I remember seeing it months ago and wanting to update my software but the dealership general manager said it wasn't possible?
EDIT: I think they called it "Categories" or something?

Yes, but at some point, 2010 models received new iDrive hardware. So now updated software has different features on old/new iDrive hardware. For ex., with soft. updates, some 2010 get satelite view in nav, and MY2009 will not with same updates.

How would I go about getting this update if my dealership claims it can't be done? I want it purely for the new way satellite radio can be sorted/filtered/etc. Updated maps would just be a bonus...

The satellite radio changes are hardware related and will not change as a result of updated software. The new unit is different in the '10s and allows for instant playback as well.

True, but it really does need to tell you that in advance. Not just on the destination, but that would be a big help - unless you turn the arrows on full time, you have no indication of where you want to be for your next turn until it is almost too late, especially in traffic. A simple "next turn/destination will be on the left/right" indicator would really help make sure you're in the correct lane.

07/09 build, ISTA/P 2.36+, 2010 Nav software...only once has it notified me that my destination is on left/right.

FYI, I just had my car updated today, for the first time since the car was produced in 9/2008. Version 39.1 was installed.

You can learn more about that here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=440837 there are direct download links and links to the torrent files of the iso's on page 4 (I think) but also, if i remember correctly, your car is an LCI and thus has a hard drive where it stores the NAV files and will need to be updated by a dealership (for a couple hundred I imagine). If your car works with a DVD like my 07 335i "pre-LCI" you can either download the ISO files and burn them to a DVD or buy the DVDs from BMW (if piracy isn't your style |

LCI Nav 2010.1 was released in Dec 2009, so, yes, I'd hope 2011.x is available! BTW, I have no idea if 2010.2 was ever released. Anyone?

I have the new iDrive version, my current North American maps version is 1.2.8 premium 2009.1 ... I went into Budd's BMW in Hamilton today and was quoted $620 taxes in for 2011.1 maps, $125 of that bill was for labour, the rest was for the activation code and "License" fees, talk about a scam!!!
