Hey guys,

I bought a P-tronic tuning box for my 320d E92 177 bhp with 6k km.

It didn't work, after trying almost everything. I'll post the mail i sent to the p-tronic service after several tries to make the box work:

"Hello,

I opened the box today as you suggested and i was surprised to see that two wires inside were not connected. Anyway, i connected them, and after that i started to install the box according to instructions. The engine started-up, but it kept on revving between 600 rpm and 1.200 continuously. Then I adjusted the power setting and the sensibility in every way possible (from 1 to 7 - sensibility, and power - 1-4). It kept on revving the engine in standstill.

After that, I took the car for a drive hoping it will settle somehow, but after 3 minutes (and revving the engine to 3.500 rpm), I got the error - engine malfunction (which limited my turbo).

Can anything else be done? "

Now they've picked-up the unit and now i am waiting for a new one to come from belgium.

Cheers,

How much?

420Nm torque? YIKES! Don't think I've ever owned a car with that much torque and I've owned a few "fast" cars

If I was to do this to a new car would it voi the warranty?

Actually, the P-tronic box is stated to take the power up even more - 226 bhp and the torque to 459 Nm (from 177 bhp and 350 Nm).

Who is going to be brave and dyno a tuning box so that we can compare against a remap?

I don't expect it to be as good but will it give a reasonable gain

P-Tronic quote 368bhp for the 335d! Sounds good!

I did a little research into P-Tronic, can't find any real info and all the gains they quote are % increases.

Makes you wonder if or what cars they have actually tried these things on

Not to say it wont work it may well do

I received the box yesterday and I managed to install it. This time, it worked great. When I first started the engine it had some sort of unstable revving at standstill (it went from 700 rpm to 900 rpm), but after taking it for a drive it settled to 800 rpm (at standstill).

As for the power delivery, it is excellent; the power curve is linear, so it is no problem to drive in the city (i was a little bit worried about this fact).

I intend to put the car on a dyno, to see the actual gains and i also want to do a race with a 330xd (from 20km/h, so there will not be any traction advantage).

Now, the specifications of the car, according to P-tronic would be: 226 Bhp and 458 Nm (from 177 bhp and 350 Nm)

Cheers,

Hey John! My car is in a repair shop right now, they had to change the front bumper. (somebody hit me in the parking lot).

I had the chance to test the P-tronic box only for 1 day, before my car went into service.

My impressions were very good after trying the P-tronic box: the power-delivery was excellent (it went fast from 1.800 rpm to 2.500, and after 2.500, even faster - at 2.500 rpm, it felt like another turbo went in).

I didn't have the chance to put the car on a dyno (yet) and i didn't do a 0-62 run, but i'm sure it goes at least 0,5 s. quicker than before; we'll see.

The gas millage didn't change at all, although the car was pushed hard all day long. (8,5-9 l/100km)

I hope I'll get my car back this week (I'm having some trouble with my insurance company - ALLIANZ which somehow forgot to pay BMW Service). After that i'm planning to do a test against a friend of mine that drives a BMW 320d E92 (also with a powerbox - but DTUK, bought from UK) to see which chip gives the most power (and how it delivers it).

Cheers,

Vlad

P.S.: Congratulations for the car; excellent choice.

Well I've got my P-Tronic box and fitted it to my 635D Sport for now (same engine as the X635D coming) it flys now, I mean really flys, I have remapped all my cars til now, NO more this is the way to go, two mins ON/OFF it's great. Economy is better if you don't push to hard, love it.

I experienced a problem with my P-tronic box. When i reinstalled it after taking the car to the service (to change the front bumper), it didn't work anymore...

I had to send it back to them to change it (this being the second time, when i am sending it back). There might be a problem with the power box and this particular engine 2.0 177 hp (to be more exact with it's ECU).

They will give me a new one next week. I will post the results after refitting it.

a remap is just coming...

http://www.digituning.com/
soon releases a remap to my 320d E90 177hp 350nm 2008

Current programs:
> E46 320d 100 kW (136 hp) 100 kW/136 hp 280 Nm 207 km/h 120 kW/163 hp
> 335 Nm
>
> E46 320d 110 kW (150 hp) 110 kW/150 hp 330 Nm 216 km/h 132 kW/180 hp
> 390 Nm
>
> E46 320d 120 kW (163 hp) 120 kW/163 hp 340 Nm 225 km/h 146 kW/198 hp
> 410 Nm

for my version promises about 215hp and about 450nm
After reading digituning faq i would not even consider a tuning box...well
i am sorry i cant translate that info to english but i am sure remap
beats a tuning box 6-0....

a couple of things:

*tuning-boxes work without giving any more pressure to the turbo
->have to raise injection pressure to sky high->enormous pressure to the
rail pump,to injektors... (cant translate properly)->injection time raising->temperature raising...

*most of the tuning boxes work when you pedal-to-the-metal
BUT with a remap car accelerates allready from a low rpm...

Everything in Finnish:

Not all tuning boxes just up the fuel pressure, or only work at full throttle...
