America is like a hot girl/guy. Extremely sexy, tattoos, nice breast, butt, nice chest, nice six pack, nice eyes, long beautiful hair, makes a lot of money, very intelligent, drives sexy cars but hooks up with a lot of people, has commitment issues, pisses you off occasionally, cheats on you with your best friend and begs for forgiveness. While other countries are like an ugly'sh looking girl/guy. Not very sexy, a little boring, has bad incurable teeth, ridiculous body odor . However, he/she completely loves you, will never cheat, stays loyal. Also intelligent, also makes good money. Who would you rather date? They both have their ups and down. To answer the question. I say America is the greatest Country today. It tops all other countries in any category when facing equal grounds of comparison. What i mean is this: You have to keep in mind that US has A LOT of people from other countries in it. People from other countries bring both their best and their worst. There is too much cultural diversity in US which can be a good thing or can also be a bad thing because it causes a lot of conflict between different cultures living on the same land. Anyone who compares US to other European countries has to realize that a lot of diversity is in USA so the rules/laws/life style etc is greatly skewed. The education system here is rated as poor. Which can be a good thing or a bad thing. How is it a good thing you ask? Well, in the USA, a high school dropout can have an apartment, job, car, spouse, pet, 24hr running water and electricity, smart phone, computer, can dial 911 and emergency will be there ASAP! This means USA's infrastructure is sooo good that education isn't really really required. Because in other countries, with no education, you might as well commit suicide because your life ain't gonna go nowhere. So in conclusion, US is the greatest country. However, all the greatness it has is like a double edged sword, as it makes the country great, it is also killing the country.

USA is still by far the best, especially if you have a decent income.
The whiners look at others countries because of their "better" social programs as the reason the country is better. Overall, USA still has the best colleges, the best healthcare, the best economy, and the most "options" to live because of the wide open spaces and different climates available. You can live on the beach, in the country, in the city, in a small town, or in a log cabin with mountains in your backyard. The people saying USA isn't all that either: 1) Have not actually traveled outside the US very much 2) Is a socialist 3) Need to leave if it is so bad...why are you here? 4) Is poor With the exception of maybe Tokyo (although it's too crowded), I have not seen a place I'd rather live and I've traveled all over the world. Europe is nice, but still very socialist. Old. Too small. Too Crowded. Canada is too cold, too socialist, not enough living options. Asia is too mixed. You think we don't care about our lower class? Go to China. Go to Korea. You think we have poor people? Go to Nepal. Or India. I've been to both, you haven't seen poor. The US still has the best money can buy. I will concede that you NEED money to get the best the US has to offer, but that's basically true anywhere. If I needed a life saving medical procedure done, there is no question I'd rather have it done in the US. All the best companies and smartest people are in the US. We are financial market leaders. Housing market is great and has many, many options in terms of price point, climate, and style of living. We have immigrants to thank for all our greatness. We need to get better in math, science, and getting the other 50% of our population to be productive. I would say currently it is the best, but that could change. The arrow is more headed downward than I'd like to see. There are some interesting countries, particularly in Asia that might decide coming to the US is no longer needed. Then we lose those smart people and they decide to stay in China or move back when things stabilize. |

And majority of those smarts are from immigrants that came over and are working for these companies. Many of our American raised/born college grads can barely put a sentence together let alone solve a complex problem. I had a kid working for me who graduated from a pretty good university here in NJ. Kid graduated with a good GPA but he couldn't write for shit.. Half the time when he sent me an email I would have to call him and ask wtf he was talking about. |

Anyway, you just further proved the point that USA is the best because "those smarts are from immigrants that come over". They are now here in the USA and they are making USA good.

Depends on what you definition of strength is. We can fairly easily beat every military on Earth expect for Russia and China in a head to head match. We can defeat the military but that is about it. Once an insurgency begins it's pretty much a done deal for us. Iraq is and was a loss and Afghanistan is about to be a huge cluster fuck now that the Taliban is changing leadership.

American's biggest problem is that half of our population is unproductive or even counterproductive. Our social programs are not only too many, but poorly managed and even more poorly implemented. We are the great in SPITE of this fact. I have even proposed a citizenship trasfer where if you are not employed/productive for a period of longer than 5 years, not retired, collect X amount in social program benefit, etc etc, you will be deported and a more productive person will have a chance to "take" your citezenship. Put a little competition in being America. Of course, many would so that is too radical, and maybe it is. But these social program lifers will be the ruination of America. Furthermore, don't use the "America raises idiots" argument. Every country has idiots and very smart people too. My best friend is from Beijing and he said you wouldn't believe how many morons there are in China. You only see the best ones in America because the idiots can't make it here. They are kicking our asses in Math/Science, but the smart Americans can compete against the Asian immigrants. We just need MORE smart Americans. Americans always have the advantage because they can communicate and hustle more than the typical immigrant. I know so many Asians bordering on genius, but they can't get into management and higher level positions because of the communication and culture barriers. That conclusion that education is not important, based on the ability to receive material goods without one, was a funny comment.
My friend's kid just got into Sloan. When I think about the sheer amount of work it would take to get the piece of paper, and the competitiveness to get in, and to survive and complete, why even bother with all that? And yet she said she's excited for the fall. That's what's good about Americans, the desire to compete not being assured of any reward. She drives a beater, while we have BMWs here. Yet she's not discouraged. Ah, to be 26 again..... |

I'm not an immigration lawyer, but if I'm not mistaken, even if a child is born in a hospital in Queens, that child is a US Citizen, but should be deported along with his/her mom, and can return at 18? That's what I heard. I dunno, I'm a citizen by birth and would never want to give it up. |

I do believe most of the brain power in the US comes from people coming to the US from overseas. The desire to get ahead and do something with their lives is what drives them to succeed. Leaving your home and coming here means you are here to work hard because you don't really have anything to fall back on if you don't succeed.
But it is getting increasingly hard for immigrants to come to the US. All the restrictions on immigration is making the US less desirable for people who want to come. I'm not talking about people running across the border from Mexico. I'm talking about the highly educated people with advanced college degrees, knowledge and are driven. I know many people who have their application for a work visa rejected and end up going back home. They leave the country and take their knowledge with them. They go overseas and start big things - big things that could have been here!

America is probably the one place on Earth where a talentless family can get their own tv show and become insanely successful from it. It's also one of the few places where a athlete, long past his prime, can get a sex change, be hailed a hero because of it, and GET HIS own TV show.

But what these places lack sometimes is class and manners. On Sat., this one guy was going down the left side of an aisle and gave me a motion to get out of his way....hahahahahahahahaha I told him, "Wrong way, wrong way!!" Speaking louder should help him understand my words better, I thought. Then, a woman pushes her shopping cart into my a**, for real. And doesn't say sorry. Yes, this is the greatest country!! GO USA!! |

We are the greatest country and we're by far. The fact that this is even being discussed shows how far we've fallen in the past 6 years. Where's Reagan when you need him. Dust off his corpse and put it in the Oval Office and we'd be far better off than now.
Video says it well. Not a PC but I'm not either. |

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_...ystems_in_2000 We've never been ranked at or near the top. But judging by the rest of your post you obviously think electing a republican will fix things (as if Obama caused our problems). You may want to look at the horrible mess the last republican made with a trillion dollar useless war, the collapse of the economy, the housing, financing and auto industries, and more than 11 trillion in new debt over 8 years. Switching back to republican is not even close to the answer, unless you're rich of course. We need a third party. One that doesn't give handouts to the poor OR the rich. One that represents the average American.

To me military strength is the above PLUS the ability to take care of your veterans. We have homeless veterans, wounded veterans that cannot pay for an aspirin, shitty medical services, crappy housing, etc. Military logistics should not stop at where to drop the bombs or mobilize troops, it should go all the way back to how to care for those who volunteered to fight a war. So yeah, I am questioning the strength of USA's military. |

The trillion dollar war was not useless until Obama made it so. We took out a dictator and made a friendly country in the heart of the middle east. We had a brand new billion dollar airbase there and we could have ended all middle east conflicts by staying there like we are in Germany or Japan still. I sis would be in Syria only. Yemen would be stable. On and on. He decided tor a quick election boost to take out our troops like we did in Afghanistan in the early 90s and allowed is is to rise. Now we need to do it all over again. The economic mess is Obamas and the Democrats fault. The laws created that allowed the housing and subsequent banking crisis to happen were enacted under carter and Clinton. The economy would have rebounded like it always has except every single policy they passed was aimed at wealth distribution and retarded economic growth. Wed be at dow 35,000 right now if he hadoesn't done nothing and really at 4% unemployment not 12% which is the true number based on labor participation rate. As for spending a trillion dollars who cares. Bush was $6 trillion in debt. Obama said that was unAmerican. Now we're at $19 trillion in debt. Who's inamerican now? Finally the rich. The only people who have improved their economic condition under Obama is the rich. Never have we had a time where the rich got so much richer and the middle class and poor so much poorer. Again from his policies. If you're going to make your arguments, at least have a single correct fact and figure out what the definition of "is" is. |
