The guys were out and about 4.22. Finally had some time since last Nov. to try the 5D out. Have determined that the 1.4xii really shows its flaws vs the 2xiii.

Backyard vixen:
Backyard Vixen by David Stephens, on Flickr Unfortunately, not my backyard; otherwise, I'd post images of the five-kits, that I didn't see in my short visit. That softness in the OOF areas is due to shooting at ISO 12800.

That is one long legged fox! I'm always afraid to up the ISO, but not doing so means that you sometimes miss the shot. I don't think I have ever shot over 1600, guess I'll need to experiment more!

My Sony a9 and a7RIII are way better at high-ISO than my Canon's were, but I've still shot my 5D MkIV at 26400, with good results. I've gotten rid of all the chromatic noise in the fox shot, but there's lots of luminescence left and bringing that down crushes detail. It's interesting that I get good detail in the in-focus areas, but the out-of-focus areas are smeared. This is after noise reductions with DxO PRIME noise reduction.

Great gosling shot![/QUOTE]
The parents were mostly accommodating. A little head lowering, hissing and bill snapping - - - but no geese, goslings or humans were injured for the photo. |
