And anyway, the point I was trying to make is that its WAY WAY WAYYYYYY cheaper fully modding the 335i, compared to a stock S4.

I can spend $5000 for LSD and still keep price of car less than $40K, which is SIGNIFICANTLY less than stock S4, and still have it faster and with better handling.
ok well you could buy a e36 m3 and for 20k have a car that would be faster/handle better/sound better/ and cost less to repair than your modded 335i.... whats your point? same thing can go for the b5 s4....

Don't understand what come of you guys are bickering about. Both awesome cars in my book as well as everyone in the automotive world. The 3 series is the benchmark of its class and its been that way for years. Its no secret and Audi knows that. Audi finally comes out with a car that can compete or even top the 335i which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. The e90/92 is already at the end of its life cycle and i'm sure the next generation 3 will further the gap between its competition once again... Competition is good for US the consumer!

I don't care WHAT make a car is, if it's a good car then it's a good car, period.

I'll touch on the LSD aspect in a moment. But first, you are comparing a used car to a new one. And am I hearing this correct, you are only specifically referring to yourself; as in what you can do and not the general public? You purchasing a used car and comparing it to a new vehicle opens the door to many other comparisons. For instance, one could purchase a STi for $20k, put $10k into it and it would run circles around your 335i. But this would be an apples to oranges comparison also. If you want to open comparison, I would look at the new vehicle pricing as well as costs associated with modification. For instance, new car prices and both with GIAC tune, etc. That would be pretty close but with the edge to the 335i IMO.

And congrats on having a friend to install the LSD. Very nice friend indeed to drop the rear end, replacing and shim the diff and reinstall. But that is not the norm either. While I have wrenched (for nearly 3.5 years since I purchased the vehicle new) on my car and feel comfortable anywhere in it. I would probably still go to a shop for a diff swap as doing it on ramps and stands would be an adventure IMO. It is better suited for a lift and diff jack. And from my understanding, most vehicles do have a welded ring gear. It is mainly the pre-March 2007 which have bolted. Automatics continued a bit later. But that is less than a years' production run with now four years standing.

I understand your point of being more easily modified as it is with all turbo vehicles. But do not discount the new S4 either as it is in its infancy. Giving respect where it is due is the adult thing to do.

If that sounds silly to you, re-read what you just wrote. You're using the same logic. Furthermore, like scalbert said, it is meaningless to compare prices of used and new cars and even more ridiculous to bring aftermarket modifications into the picture.
the original comment was than you cannot get an LSD for less than 1000. I just simply stated that you can.

second, I got my car for $35k with 800 miles on it, hence used. But would you consider that used? so in actuallity , i got a brand new car for $35k. how much is an S4 with 800 miles on it??

YOU might be able to get it for $1k, but most will pay $1500-$2000 installed...and thats not quaife.

ps. LSD can (and will if dealer finds out) void you warranty

But put a Jb3 in that 335i for $500 and LSD for $1k and watch that 335i demolish all that audi stands for, while still keeping the BMW price under $40k.

And I do like audi. I had the previous 3 A4 models, so i was an audi owner for about 10 years. Now i've converted to BMW and don't know why I didn't do it like 9.9 years ago.

I would still love an R8 or an RS6. If audi comes out with a nice looking turbo model, i'd be all over it
it makes no sense to compare a used modified 335 to new s4, price-wise that is.

and by the way for $28-29k you can get NEW Mustang which comes with LSD that will demolish your modded 335 and M3 for that matter....

335 for $35k? 335 starts at 40,600. So you are comparing your USED 335 to a NEW s4? It has 800 miles.. How are you going to say that it is still new? It's probably been beaten the shit out of it by the previous owner and test drivers before they sold it to you during the break in period.

O yeah, S4 starts at 48k.

And with your mentality, "why don't I get a civic for $2000 that has only 1000 miles? It has ONLY 1000 miles it can pass as a new car. Plus, I can add a turbo kit and nitrous which can eat any 335 WHILE keeping it under $5000."

e90 vs s4, i would take s4
e92 vs s4, i would have to test drive and then make the decision
e92 vs s5, i would take s5

if i wanted a track car, i would probably go with e92, but i dont track so....
