I'd be very interested in the group buy come December.. when I eventually get an E91! Don't want to put it in the E87 just yet...

I've just purchased a 55 plate 320i which came with a standard BMW professional stereo. I'm looking to upgrade the stereo system, as you mentioned there is not enough people for a group buy. I was wondering, How many people do you need for a group buy? and how many people have show an intrest? |

Me and Ant1985 upgraded my 2007 E90 Saloon which had the DAB option. The bottom line is this - EVERYTHING is the same, except that the DAB receiver sits in the bootwell where the Alpine amp would be seated if you do the Alpine upgrade. Heres the trick though; the Alpine kit comes with some adhesive stickers for securing it, whilst the DAB receiver is attached to a customised metal bracket. Whilst that bracket is in place, there is physically not enough room for the Alpine Amp in situ where the Alpine kit specifies it should be. SO, you have two options. 1) You can fit the Alpine Kit speakers and run the wiring as normal, then locate the Alpine amp somewhere different to how the manual specifies it. Depending on your car, this could be on one of the boot sides or on the seat back if you don't have split/fold anyway. 2) You can do what I did. I unscrewed and removed the bracket that the DAB receiver sat in and then created a custom bracket using some other materials. If I remember correctly, it was possible to secure both the receiver and the amp side by side, securely strapped down with velcro and supported by something underneath (you will notice there is a slight recess in which either the amp or receiver will 'rattle' if you don't use something to make it flush.) Either of the above will be fine, but BMW obviously won't entertain fitting it for you. Anneka might be able to sort you out with the labour 'up to a point' and you could finish it off maybe, I dunno - you'll have to ask. All I can say is that the Amp/receiver were NOT the difficult bit - that was which wires to splice in the footwell etc and me and Ant were really stumped by it until his mate turned up. I am a total donut with this kind of thing, yet the whole amp/receiver bracket and relocation was pretty much ALL I contributed to the fitting session - even though it was my car. So, all that said - Anneka can you quote me for an Alpine kit for my new car please? It's a 2009 (HDD nav, but still pre-LCI) Coupe. You can PM me on here with details if that's ok? Thanks Matt |
