The initial smell seems to have died down. It's summer here and air con is working like normal.

The hilarity of this thread amuses me to no end.

You guys realize that cars have only HAD engine covers and cowls for the last ten years or so? That for the last century there were no cowls? That cars have had turbos and superchargers and they've been just fine?

I mean, really guys...

On topic - can someone post a video of the idle noise from the injectors? I'm down with the turbo and DV sounds, but I don't want clatter at idle..

Yeah, but how many cars within the last century have ~$1200 DMEs under the hood; specifically those that are covered by a cowl of some sort? If you're not worried about it, then don't be. For those that are, they can run the M3 cowls, etc. if they want.

As long as your engine cover is on, I wouldn't worry about injector noise too much; that takes care of ~95% of it. I've driven WITH the cowl, but WITHOUT the engine cover before and it was definitely noisy at idle.

That's what I have been doing for the last 6 months. Works fine, same increased turbo (and injector) sound. Only thing is you still have to remove the it on occasion for some jobs in the very rear of the engine.

I'll still be getting the cowls soon.

If you get snow, put your cowl back on. I had a decent snowfall here in Toronto, opened the hood and there was a good amount of snow near the DME. I instantly put the cowl back on. Also, these filters do need to be replaced ever so often. After about a year and a half (whenever they first came out), I started to smell my downpipes inside the cabin with the heat on.

Makes sense given the number of leaves I found in my engine bay after it sat outside 1/2 the fall.

That's true, up until pretty recently, everything was exposed. And for the most part, cowls are for appearance. Exposed wiring and brake lines aren't that pretty. Same with lower splash shields, up until recently you could pop the hood and see the ground on a lot of cars.

You will hear the ticking at idle. It's not bad with the OEM engine cover. I swapped to the cowl filters and left the OEM cover on. Noise wasn't too bad. Then I swapped to the ER carbon engine cover which doesn't have all of the foam on the bottom like the OEM and the noise definitely went up.

And the DME box seal is pretty good. But it's also very easy to put on crooked and not have a seal. If you don't get it lined up and slide the latches, they don't catch. Probably not a big deal with the cowl on. But if you don't run a cowl, I'd double check the DME box is closed properly.

No need to "hate" pointing out anything. More than likely nothing bad would happen either way; some peeps just don't find value in taking that risk, especially in parts of the country where they see all 4 seasons. At the end of the day, do what you want though. If anything, I think it's ridiculous that you'd let a little bit of clatter at idle ruin the potential for all that glorious turbo noise, so maybe you should stop posting in this thread, go turn some wrenches, and just make it happen

What are you still modding that car for anyway...I thought you got evicted from it a couple months back lol

I think you have me confused for someone else. I've been considering an FD for a project car, but it looks like the better half and I may be buying a house and if so that'll have to wait. However, the E92 isn't going anywhere, nor is it likely too. I like it too much as a daily driver.

Has anyone found these for under $70 shipped to Cali? $60 has me wavering but adding $10 shipping and $5 tax makes it a no go just on principle. So far I've only found them on BMS website and **********s and they're the same price.

Sorry for low Pic quality. BUT!! Couldn't be more pleased with the end result. Same clean air flow within the cabin, and great sound.

I been running with them for a while now, no issues here to report.. Makes it much easier to work towards the back of the engine bay.

We have them but also have them for the same price. BMS stuff is the same price wherever you look.
