Can't Decide on Trim
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com In the online build tool looking at the rendering the black high gloss looks better than the Aluminum in my opinion. The aluminum just looks out of place as its the only thing in that color/design in the car. I have seen actual pictures of the aluminum trim and it looks better than the rendering with the black gloss not looking as good as the rendering -- plus there have been comments of the black showing scratches and or dust much easier..... I still have a few days before my build will be locked... should I switch to the aluminum trim or stick with the blue/red/black theme and keep it black. |

I switched to alum. after my order was placed. I preferred the Piano black but after few weeks will most likely have light swirls & scratches no matter how careful you are. The Cupholders and gear shift are in the center console of course

I try to avoid piano black as much as possible. It shows everything, scratches easily and will show swirl marks no matter how gently you clean it. My last car, an Audi A4, had it and I landed up buying fake carbon fiber overlays to cover the piano black because it looked terrible.

i went with the aluminum as so much of the interior is black even when you choose a different color seat.. i wanted more visual contrast... and piano black shows fingerprints etc..

Aluminum trim over Piano black all day long.
Since the dash in the G42 is always going to be black regardless of seat color, I think it will be OK to have Aluminum trim. For instance, on G20 the lower half of the dash color also changes for certain seat color options but we dont have that problem to contend with on this car. I chose Aluminum trim even with Cognac seats even though Piano black might look nicer purely to not have to deal with scratches and swirls. |

Like others have said, piano black will show every little scratch and swirl. The only way I'd recommend keeping the black trim is if you plan to upgrade it to M Performance carbon fiber or an aftermarket option. Otherwise, definitely switch to the aluminum.

Carbon fiber trim is also available as a port installed option! I didn’t like aluminum, and can’t stand piano black fingerprinting so opted for it.

My wife has gloss black trim, and it looks awful after daily use. Completely destroyed with scratches and swirls. Not even sure why BMW offers it TBH.

Alltough gloss black looks good, I didn’t want it neither, because it shows all fingerprints and dust.
So i also ordered the tetragon alu. BUT I saw the alu in real life last week in a dealers car. And I hated it. Looks like chicken wire mesh :-/ So I have ordered the Mperformance frozen carbon interior trim and is ready for install when the car arrives… |

Who is doing the install of your friend CF interior? How much for install? Seeing if I should just order it with the car.

Here my dealer ordered the parts straught with bmw. They will install carbon front splitter, side winglets, carbon interior trim, led doorprojectors and a couple of very small changes. They charge 300€ for the installation. |

I really love the look of a CF interior trim, but almost $1200 is extremely pricey for what it is. no doubt the CF would be perfect from an OEM but damn... I wonder what some aftermarket companies would make for the car and it would probably be way cheaper.

Should have my car soon and I also have the aliexpress carbon overlays ready to install. They are very good quality and you cannot beat that value. Around $160. Only negative (to some) is gloss vs dry carbon

Black vs Aluminium trim.
I agree with all the replies on this thread.
I have read on other model BMW's that people get the piano black and do a clear wrap to protect it. Just an option. I personally ordered the aluminium because of scratches to the piano black and can't afford the carbon trim as yet. |
