Wider Rears - 295 or 305, final opinion needed

Hey guys, know this has been discussed on here a bit but wanted to ask one last time. I am swapping to my all season tire for the colder weather and going to Michellin AS4's.


I am going wider in my rears on the stock competition wheels and moving to either a 295 /30/R20 or 305/30/R20 while keeping the fronts the same stock 265 size.

Sounds like the 295 work great no issues but the 305 can hang over a little...i would much rather have the rear traction on the 305's vs the 295s but wanted to put this one up for a final ask before i pull the trigger later next week.

295's or 305's? Good news is with Discount tire i can always swap if under 30 days so i could start with the 305s and then move down if i don't like them.

you will get mushy rubber and impact handling since the rim is not wide enough to support tire width but gl either way

On the 295 or the 305? And do you know from personal experience or are you just stating bc of the ratios?

both … I'd never put those tires and 10" rim but have seen them in person on other cars and tires had sidewall bubble. Have several years of track exp with different rim and tire sizes

Fwiw these are street tires. Track tires are a couple sizes wider than their nominal size. The stock 285 look a little stretched. Most mfr list 295 as acceptable on a 10" wheel for street.

sure you can put 295 on 10" rim per the spec but the tire will not have sufficient sidewall support from the rim during loading. This is especially important when you start accelerating as the weight shifts to the back. We are discussing only street tires but the same principles apply to all wheels.

As an example, I used 9.5" rim for 255 tire to eliminate sidewall flex or bulging. Even 285 tire should really be installed on 10.5 rim.
